Model 59 Deval w 2 clips value?
A friend asked me to ask the forum what people thought a Model 59 Deval with 2 clips would be worth, in Very good condition?
He said the Deval is a cut down Model 59?
I don't know anything about it.

I've never heard of a model 59 deval. I believe that S&W made a smaller version of the 59 with the 459, but have never heard of it referred to in that way. Blue 59's can usually be had anywhere from $300 to $500 depending on condition and what comes with.

You can find out more about it if you spell it right.
Devel, run by one Charles Kelsey, specialized in customizing S&W M39 and M59 but also worked on Colts. They would do anything from a "function and reliability package" to major surgery including shortening at barrel and butt; which S&W finally got around to with the 469.
A full house Devel 59 would be worth a good deal of money. Look them up on the sales sites and see what they are auctioning for.
There is a pretty plain Devel 39 that the seller thinks is worth $2495 but you will note he has not lined up any bidders yet.

I guess it is living in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts I can't get our Govenor Deval Patrick out of my mind
I tried to order some 38 S&W unprimed brass and was told by two major retailers (Grafs and Midway) they cannot ship any components to MASS, that included brass.
I am amazed they allow us to go to the bathroom by ourselves

I believe Wayne Novak has or had a collection of the Devel pistols.

Yes, I meant to mention that. See many different Devels at:
http://www.novaksights.com/wayne's_d...collection.htm
They had three levels of work on a S&W M59; function and reliability, basic (shortened barrel and butt), and full house.

I have a Full House Devel 39, and a Full House 59. Value is hard to determine without seeing the gun. I'd say at least $1500 and up. I've seen lots of people trying to sell guns for $2500, but the only way they fetch that price is when they are pristine and come with their original holster, 3 mags, paperwork, etc. An extra mag for the Model 59 will run between $100-150. The value depends a lot on condition. The 59 has very thin grips with lexan windows. Many times, the lexan will crack, although this is more common on the Full House 39 because the grip screw goes through the middle of the window. In each window is a "Devel" emblem, and I've seen several guns that are missing one, or both emblems. They are tough to find on the loose. The finish sometimes flakes, especially around the hooked trigger guard, and can stain , much like Colt's "Satin Nickel" finish on the 70 series pistols. Attempts to clean the finish by polishing will result in a "shiny" gun, and IMO will affect the value. The Full House guns had the trigger guard relieved for a right or left handed shooter. I'm a righty, so if I found a left handed gun, it wouldn/t hold the same appeal to me as one relieved for a right-hander. Just my 2 cents.
BTW - I would like to see pics of the gun if he is going to sell it.
