Default Grade school reunion - a pic from the past.

Today my wife and I attended a reunion of our grade school 8th grade class - of 1953. We actually had roughly two dozen people in attendance (including non-alumni spouses). Some of the people there I had not seen since our grade school days, but surprisingly, I could still recognize them. We had a great time, and one of the attendees started pulling out old class photos. One of them was of my 5th grade class, dating from March of 1950. That was the same year I got my first rifle, age 11.

The years have flown, but those times seem like yesterday. I could actually pick out and name most of the kids in that class.

I was once an 11-year-old kid, doin' OK at the start of the 1950s. Although the Korean War was just starting, times were pretty good then. I had a mom and dad and a new rifle that I could shoot quite accurately. I was making good grades, had some good friends, and a couple of the girls in the class had a crush on me. Great times. Long ago. Not the same world now. Feelin' old.

Here I am as a callow youth, sitting crosslegged in the front row of my 5th grade class picture. Anyone else have photos of themselves as kids?

I was 6 in '53. My father was a 1st Sgt at the end of WWII, and got called up and reported for duty, but never went to Korea. I got measles when me an my mom went to visit him at Camp Atterbury. I'm told it almost killed me. Next few years were exactly like the kid in Christmas Story. Too bad it all changed.
