A question about moon clip convertion
After moon clipping a revolver can it still be used as before without the clips? Will it still extract unmoon clipped rounds?

I think the real trick is milling the cylinder to be able to use the moon clips OR not, as the 627 does.
I lost track of the outfit that does that....wonder if a 625 acp can be fixed up to do both?

The 625 in .45 ACP...you use .45 Auto Rim if you need rimmed ammunition.
Clark Custom does the moonclip modification on most models of S&W, Taurus and Ruger revolvers.
Check out Welcome to TK Custom.com & Moonclips.com to give you pictures and examples of how they work.

I had a few of mine done, but be sure you tell the shop doing the job that you want to be able to load without moon clips.

I had my 625 done by Pinnacle. They did a first rate job. It can be used with or without moon clips. It was born a 45Colt. Now it shoots both the 45 Colt( without clips) and the ACP (with clips).

re: "It was born a 45Colt. Now it shoots both the 45 Colt( without clips) and the ACP (with clips)"
Question: it was LC before, yes?
Am I in error thinking my 625-9 45 acp can only remain acp? Or can I find someone to fit a new LC cylinder tricked out to also take moon clipped acp along with LC?

I have a 31/2" beauty in .45 Colt.
Please let us know how yours does with the ACP.
Other have stated a lot of variations in accuracy.
Love those .45ACP N frames.

Mark did my 686 as well. First rate craftsmanship and good turn around time.
Note that you only need to ship the cylinder, not the whole gun.

657, It was originally a 45 LC yes. Yes, now it shoots 45ACP with moon clips also. I think you can make the 45LC shoot ACPs by milling the cylinder, but I don't think it works the other way around. I could sure be wrong.
gaucho1..I had to play around a bit and work up a load that shot both 45LC and 45ACP at the same POA. Now they both shoot really well and the ACP is just as accurate as the LC.

It's a whole lot of trouble making a 625 "born" a .45 ACP to shoot .45 Colts.
You'll need a .45 Colt cylinder, have to have the back of the barrel trimmed and the forcing cone cut again, time the cylinder, and then have it cut for moonclips.
May be easier to just buy a 625 in .45 Colt and have it moonclipped.

I have been thinking about doing this with my 3" 629. It would sure make a great carry gun with 200 grain Speer Gold Dot specials. I think the moon clips are a great conversion idea as long as you maintain the ability to use the gun without them.
