Who owns a SIG concealed carry jacket and what is the low down on them?

I have been looking at the leather model, which unfortunately comes only in black. I guess I can live with that, but would like to know more about it. Their website gives very little info/pictures.

How does the jacket hold the gun? I assume no holster is involved? I would be using it mostly with a J-frame, but might want to carry an M&P auto or Commander sometimes.

What about quality of materials and construction? Made in the orient, I assume? Is it worth the price?

Are there other alternatives that do the same thing, from other manufacturers? I always like to buy U.S.-made products, but when it comes to something to wear, that seems like a thing of the past.

Any comments or advice much appreciated!

Coronado Leather, makers of handcrafted, concealment leatherwear for law enforcement and those interested in high quality leather jackets, handbags and carrycases for firearm concealment makes concealed carry leather jackets right here in the United States. Kudos for buying american products. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one left who gets it.

I have two of the 3/4 length canvas coats but I don't usually carry in them. The holsters (one each side) are cheap sewn elastic. They can easily hold a J Frame or even a 5" 1911. The thing I've found is that when carrying a heavy gun, the coat pulls pretty hard on the back of your neck. Over time, I've ended up with a sore neck. A J frame though doesnt weight much and shouldnt be a problem.

As far as it goes as a coat in general, I love it. Construction is good, they are warm and fit comfortable. They are cut a little big so if you usually wear a 2x, get an XL, if you usually wear an XL, get a L, etc.... I dont have a leather one but a buddy of mine does and he's very happy with it.

Hope this helps.

I have the reg size (not 3/4) in canvas. Made in China like way too many other things. I think its a pretty good value and pretty well made. I live in a fairly cold winter climate and I can stay pretty warm in it pretty much all winter. There is both a left side and right side inner carry/concealment pocket that closes with velcro. The handgun containment design is about a 3" by 4" sewn in tight elastic band. I typically carry a CS45, 3.25" barrel, unloaded wt about 26 oz I believe. As mentioned, that much weight can pull on your neck a bit but can't say its ever been enough to give me a neck ache. Guess if it got that bad, I'd temporarily move the pistol to the outside pocket which is roomy enough to hold it but without the containment band, at least until my neck stopped hurting. I used to wonder how secure the elastic band might be under duress or impact. Took a fall on ice last winter, found myself rather suddenly on my ***, but the pistol was still secure in the elastic band. That sorta answered the question for me. Maybe not the best product out there for CC but I think its effective, pretty well made and reasonably priced. Also have run mine through the washer and dryer a few times without shrinkage or damage. They are roomy so might order one size down unless you like em big. Can't comment on the leather design though.

I don't own one, but I got an email ad from SigSauer stating their conceal carry jackets are on sale for 72 hours only starting Monday, October 26th. The leather is reg. $249 for $174.30. All others are 30% off. The number to call is 1-866-619-1128.

I own the chocolate canvas model. I have had it since the first year they came out. It has held up very well. The elastic has always done it's job for me. The "holsters" show no signs of wear or being stretched out. I have to clean off the Velcro every now and then, as it picks up threads and fuzzballs.

I carry a 37-2 in it 9 months a year. With the airweight, it is almost "not there". I have never noticed any neck strain, but I have not carried anything heavier then a 66-1 2.5".

I am very pleased with mine. I can't speak to the leather model. 30% off is about what I paid for mine. As others have stated order on size smaller then usual.

Here is a picture of what I have:

Thumbs up 511 jeans jacket

I bought the 511 jeans jacket when they were on sale a couple of years ago. Many more options than the SS. Not as warm.

I can attest to the durability of the canvas versions, I've used one for a couple of years now and it's still in great shape. They will hold and conceal just about any size handgun, but as others have mentioned the real constraint is weight if you will be wearing the coat for long periods of time. You mentioned using it for a J frame and I can't imagine having any issues at all with this jacket carrying one regardless of whether it's a steel or alloy frame. Regarding larger pieces, mine regularly sees a S&W 457 with no issues regarding weight or printing.

When I got the jacket some friends were interested in buying them as well and we did some experimentation to see what could work. A large frame Glock (20/21) is doable for me. A steel frame commander concealed well, but weight becomes an issue after a few hours. A 4" 629, done to test the extreme limits of what works, conceals but really is too heavy to be comfortable.

Your point is taken, but here in Indiana, when you walk into a restaraunt in the wintertime, it can get pretty warm if you sit there for a while with your coat on. Something like that SIG jacket could be pretty handy for those of us who don't wear a badge.

I bought one from Lenny Mc Gills catalog 2 yrs ago in black & I tried to carry my G21 in it not to bad for a full size gun the coat hides the gun well not good though if you go some where that you have to remove your coat, other than that for a $100.00 it's worth the price + it keep's you warm as toast. Only now I carry my charter Bulldog 44 spcl 5 shot with a 2/12" BBl with no problem's.

I thought a lot about the SIG jacket, but decided not to go that way.

It struck me as being like 'purse carry' for a woman. At some point they risk being separated from their purse and creating an awkward moment (or else they look like they have an unnatural relationship with the purse).

With a coat, I would eventually have to take it off, and would be hard pressed to switch to a holster mount without notice.

And, as Sip suggested, if you're wearing a good holster, there's no point for the coat carry, other than potential of faster access.

I decided to trade off the risk of slightly slower access, to avoid the awkward moments. There simply are too few instances where I'm wearing a coat without having to remove it at some point, for the CC coats to work for me.

I have a leather bomber jacket with an inside breast pocket. I keep the front partially unzipped so that I can draw. The beauty is that I can zip the pocket shut that the gun is in and take off my coat in a restaurant and no one is the wiser. Lately I've been carrying my Taurus 605 there, but my 360 PD sags much less. Finding a good CCW jacket may take nothing more than a trip to your local leather shop.
