Default Model 65-4

I purchased a model 65-4 in 95+ condition and was interested in info on the serial number. Are the model 65 serial numbers stamped or looks like an engraving pencil but quite a bit deeper. Serial number is BPC 14xx. This is located on the crane and same number on but. The model 65-4 is stamped.
The gun has an import stamp from CAI on the side. Would this have left the factory without serial number and been numbered when returned to the country. No buff marks on butt or anywhere else on the gun.

Hi, the serial number is a normal serial number on the crane and the butt of the gun. S&W added the serial number on the crane to make it easier to get with out taking off the grips. The import mark CAI. is just that an imort mark. the serial number has nothing to do with it.
