Default Gold Combat Spurs

So, young Dan is a 19D Cavalry Scout and after his return for Iraq has earned the right to wear a set of Gold Spurs. His unit gave him a set which are basically English riding spurs and OK; however.....

WHAT PRICE GLORY makes an excellent reproduction of the U.S. Army model 1911 spur. I am looking for someone reputable who can gold plate a set.

Check with a local jeweler. Or as an option Accurate Plating (if they are still in business) or Ford's in Florida. Both do some fantastic plating on guns, not sure if that includes gold.

We had ours made out of 155mm brass that was melted down and fahioned to our specs by a local in An Najaf. Looked pretty neat.

Bob;
Take Ford's advice. Whatever holds up best is the way to go. They have experience; perhaps some new wonder finish lasts better. These I presume, are to be mounted and treasured not used.

I used Ford's to hard chrome a Colt SAA for cowboy mounted shooting. Although they did a good finishing job, it had to be sent back because their gunsmith didn't reassemble it right and it was locked up tight when I opened the box. They did pay for return shipping, but I still think it should have been done right the first time.

My thanks to your son for his service to our country!

Sounds like a very nice gift for him. If you google "gold plating," you'll get over 900,000 hits. I'd try to find services that specialize in gold plating, and then call several of them up and talk to them.

Hmm. Over 14,000 hits for "gold plated spurs" so somebody out there is sure doing this!
