Default Got lucky!

Saw this gun on GB last week. I bid on the gun with 15 minutes,10 seconds left and won it. There were only 2 other bids! It's a 19-no dash in MUCH better shape than the seller's pics show (I'd say an easy 97% finish). I had swapped several e-mails with them asking for the serial number on the grips, the markings on the grip adapter, etc. I sent pics of a grip adapter to make sure that we were talking original. All answers were positive. So,here's my $540 19-no dash wearing pre-war magnas, apparently from a K-22 Outdoorsman's revolver and the first pre-war K-frame grip adapter that I have ever seen in the flesh,so to speak. I'm a happy camper!

Great find, everything is in superb condition! I don’t believe those are considered Magnas, I think they‘re just pre-war checkered K frame stocks with flush silver medallions. They could be from an M&P.

What's a K frame grip adaptor worth (gotta be big)?

Nice score! 'bout half (more?) of what you paid could be recouped in the adapter and grips!
GB has treasures from time to time. You just gotta be on the hunt.

Nice grab. I do a double-take every time I look at the prewar clothing hanging on a frame without a visible hammer stud and sporting a knobless ejector rod, but the package is so attractive I can't complain. This is what "retro" styling would have looked like at the time of the gun's manufacture.

Can you tell us the serial number pressed into the right panel interior, assuming there is one? It would be interesting if we could zero in on the age of the gun from which they were taken.

The original grip adaptor is probably a $300-350 accessory if you wanted to sell it. The finish on the exposed portion looks to be in very good shape; if the finish under the stocks is equally unscratched, they are extremely well preserved. There was another thread recently about K-frame grip adapters in case you want to search it out.

To my way of thinking, you bought some great prewar stocks and a nice Wesson grip adapter at a fair price. Then the former owner threw in the gun for free.

Nice score f.t. - I guess you know that your prewar grips are from 1929-1941. Based on their condition and the nice looking grip adapter, you pretty much got the revolver thrown in for free.
You can take some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip, and the green scum will come right off on the brass escutcheons.
Hang on to those as you will need them in the future to put on a proper gun.
Thanks for sharing - Congrats

Great score! You slipped one under the radar. I've found those deals a few times, too. Under-educated sellers, poor descriptions, fuzzy pictures, wrong listing catagories...mis-matched parts (like the pre-war grips and adapter) that to the untrained eye would have a negative impact on the value of a post-war gun. I love it!

Proper K frame diamond target grips are a lot cheaper and easier to find than those rare adapters.

Great job.

Thanks fellas. I still can't get over the fact that no one picked up on this thing. It ain't like I'm the only one lookin' at Gunbroker.
To answer a couple of questions, the grips bear serial # 652960 which is mid-range in the run of the Outdoorsman's (I'd guess '35 or '36),the adapter is in remarkable condition overall, and neither it nor the gun are for sale at the moment.
The "green crud" (verdigris) will certainly be removed. Don't know which grips would suit the gun best. Probably magnas, since it has standard hammer and trigger, which sadly have very little of the color case hardening left. I've got several pair of targets but haven't tried them on the gun as yet. I also have ivory and stag,so options ARE available. I could use a box, however.
I appreciate the comments.

Great score, Tom!
I lucked into a pre-war M&P with a grip adapter a couple years ago at a small gun show, what a treat. They're seldom seen.

Hi, that is a nice gun, and the grip adapter is quite the score also. I search GB diligently and did not see this one...so sad.

If you want the authentic look, originally this one would have come with diamond Target stocks with the "football" cutout and likely would not have been numbered to the gun, so any stocks of this era will look correct. Enjoy!

No Dash? You sure 'bout that? There must be a dash of something... somewhere...

Well,my memory being what it is,or isn't,I just went and checked. Mod. 19. That's it. No dash.
f.t.

p.s. There is one puzzling aspect, however. The screw that came withe the grips and adapter fits fine, but when I tried the same combination on a k-22 Outdoorsman's,it (the screw) was too short. Tried the screw that was on the K-22 and had the same result. So,how come the screw fits on the 19? Looks to be the same length as the one on the k-22. Strange.
