UK: Going to jail for turning in a gun
Ex-soldier faces jail for handing in gun
Quote:
A former soldier who handed a discarded shotgun in to police faces at least five years imprisonment for "doing his duty".
...
He also showed jurors a leaflet printed by Surrey Police explaining to citizens what they can do at a police station, which included "reporting found firearms".
...
Just by having the gun in his possession he was guilty of the charge, and has no defence in law against it, he added.
...
Judge Christopher Critchlow said: "This is an unusual case, but in law there is no dispute that Mr Clarke has no defence to this charge.
"The intention of anybody possessing a firearm is irrelevant."

The fruits of mandatory sentencing. Oh my...

That type of ' logic' employed in the U.K. is like a dis-ease. Intent is EVERYTHING. If the law is blind to that then the law should be challenged.
Are they sheep? This mans conviction is a travesty.

A disease which is epidemic among “progressives”, consider that failure to have medical insurance under Pelosi-Obama care will result in automatic fines or imprisonment.
By the way, I do not consider it a brilliant move to take a "shorn-off shotgun" to the police station and dump it on their table. Punishment should be more in the line of a dope slap.

Heck, they don't even sell fireworks in the UK any longer...
And children can't beg for pennies to spend on fireworks for Guy Fawkes day anymore either.
(Not that a penny would get many fireworks anyhow. )
I'd say that it's time for Englishmen to wake up...but alas, I am feared that the potential is there for England to be more totalitarian than communist Russia or China ever was...in the name of safety.

I am not sure the same thing would not happen in the U.S. in some jurisdictions. The U.S. cases where kids are arrested and expelled from school for having a plastic knife or a pocket knife in their cars are not much different and it all comes from mindless mandatory sentencing combined with witless bureaucrats who are afraid to apply common sense.

One problem England has is that anyone carrying the genes that develop ingenuity, independent thought, or initiative either migrated elsewhere, was kicked out or lead in a disastrous attack somewhere by British Officers.

Sure it would. We're not far behind the English and if we don't stop this one-size-fits-all nonsense the day will be here, everywhere, before you know it.
All people are not equal - some are good, some are bad. Good people should not be treated like bad people and judges should have the wisdom and freedom to handle them accordingly. A judge lacking the wisdom should be recalled or impeached.

He would have been so much further ahead to have done nothing or donated it to a deep watery grave.
The scary thing is that this kind of idiocy seems to be contagious.

About 10 or so years ago I use to shoot at a indoor range at a now defunct gunshop. I didn't have much going on then weekend afternoons and it seems like I would always run into the same people at the range. One guy in particular use to comment on the CZ-52 I would bring into shoot. I noticed he had a British type accent. One day we got talking a bit more and he was originaly from England and commented about the U.K. and how beautiful the landscape and old landmarks, scenery, yadda yadda is. I said what brought you and your family here. He pointed to his Glock 20 in 10mm and said "There your not a free man"

If you live in such a misguided society, why not simply call the local gestapo and exclaim " Mommy I see something that looks like a very bad thing that could hurt little me, would you please come and make it go away/"
