Default No mamograms for women under 50

Wonderful, my wife would be so pleased. She had breast cancer at 45 years old, and was able to catch it in it's infancy thanks to yearly mamograms.
Is this a sign of things to come? Gov't telling us what tests and procedures we can have? Is this the precedent to Obamacare?

Mike....it's only going to get worse.

It sure will help with killing off the "Baby Boomers" before their old enough to retire and become a burden on the next generation....

They even suggest that doctors stop teaching women to do self exams. I know of two gals in my circle of friends that using that technique saved their lives... One in her early thirties and one just 40...

Get use to it, it's all about the bean counters in ObamaCare...

Mike, sadly I believe you are correct. That is the first thing I thought when I heard it on the news.

It's all about money. The gov't wants to keep women from following up with MRI's, x-rays, biopsies, etc. THAT costs money, BINGO!
The gov't is saying "we're willing to allow x amount of women to get cancer, but we'll save money in the long run because the "false positives" costs us too much".
That's my take.
Welcome to hope and change.

This is just the beginning. As long as we have the criminals in the White House and in congress, it is only going to get worse.

This is just beyond belief! Polosi, Reid, and the Oba-min-ator need to be impeached and jailed. Unadulterated, lying, cheating, piles of dog excrement.

I know little about this, but can relate something similar.

The std protocol is to begin getting colonoscopy's at age 50 to screen for colon cancer. Just under a month ago I was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 42; the doctor told me I have probably had this growing in me for 7-10 years. It can be treated and it was caught before it spread, but I sure wish it had been caught several years ago.

The rationing and culling have only begun.

Just yesterday, one of my applicants stopped by. She is an older woman from Bulgaria. She said what is happening here is exactly what happened when the Communists took over her country.

Sorry if my previous post offended anyone. I hang out with cops and other health care providers. There ain't nuffin' we won't joke about.

My mom is 91 and gets to wear a colostomy bag from colon cancer. The GF is a survivor of both breast cancer and colon cancer. No mastectomy or ostomy, but she does have what she refers to as a ";".

Rationing is what happens with socialized medicine. A couple of years ago, the British gubermint announced that they had greatly reduced the waiting time for joint replacement surgery. Later it came out that they had accomplished this by deleting the names of people who had died from the waiting list.

The sad thing is that no matter what kind of health care bill they pass, it's the camels nose in the tent. They will continue to expand it session after session. . . The Federal Income Tax didn't look too bad when it was started in 1913.

Didn't offend me-but then again not much does
This hits very close to home as given my wife's family history, it's not a question of if she gets breast cancer but When. This rationing stuff is scary and I've just scheduled another scope as it has been 4 years since my last one and they snipped two back then. I'm going to quit now, cause I'm getting worked up and Lee will lock the thread.

Everybody in my family and all friends of my family that had breast cancer, the majority of them came out okay because they all caught it early... And how old were they? Late 30s/Early 40s.

The guy they had on from the task force on TV last night was doing a terrible job of selling this new idea. I mean, it was almost like a poorly constructed joke - except it's not funny.

His only downsides were false positives and unnecessary testing. Which, when compared against dying (and suffering) from cancer... Seem like pretty minimal downsides.

Just trying to save a buck instead of a life. It's the new American way, dontcha know... I'm sure they'd farm out mammograms to China or India if they could figure out how.

Because of self examination and mammograms, it save two of my wife's daughters from full fledged breast cancer and they are both in their 40s. Both are in remission now.
This is a death sentence for a lot of young women under fifty!

Looks like the Obamination is playing cutsie right now, though wouldn't be surprised this "recommendation" rears it's head sometime in the next couple years.

U.S. health chief: No change on mammogram policy - CNN.com

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but was just thinking....suppose the gov't threw this out there to be eaten up by private insurers? The private insurers go by the recommendation, the public turns on them then the gov't program comes to the rescue with mamograms without restrictions? Hence, another excuse to blame the insurance co's for bad practice and ripping off the public.

Just a bit of info: this was a panel of doctors appointed by the Bush administration.

Connecting this to Obama just doesn't stick. One reason I've had to turn off my former favorite Fox is because of the distortions coming out lately. Much like other networks when bush was in office.

This isn't the recommendation of any of the major medical groups. Nor will health insurance companies base anything on this. If your doctor recommends you get one every year, you'll be covered for one every year.

Yep especially if there is a family history. I had my first colonoscopy at age 32 due to the advice of the doc that treated my mother and grandfather for colon cancer.
Now they are even starting on the PSA tests for prostate cancer. I alone know at least 5 guys that are still alive due to early testing. All this B.S about not needing these tests till later are all about dollars and cents and that really pisses me off considering what we pay for health care.

I'm still impressed these "findings" or task force data was even put out there... Considering the public backlash was pretty damn immense, and it's exactly what one would think it would be. Almost everybody knows somebody (or several somebodies) who have had breast cancer.

Ever get a feeling your on the Titanic and you've got Schummer and Durbin up there in the crow's nest looking out for you?

Get used to it folks, this is just the tip of the "iceberg". Unless, of course, we all get off our butts and do something about in 2010.
