Default Media manipulation of the news

Recently in a Chattanooga park there was a shooting that left one man injured and another dead.
Here is a perfect example of how the media can manipulate a story to fit their own agenda.

The story as reported by The Memphis Commercial Appeal
TENNESSEE
Man fatally shot at playground
CHATTANOOGA -- Gunfire at a Chattanooga playground where children were playing nearby left one man dead and another wounded.
Police said 28-year-old Antonio Green was shot in the upper chest and was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon at a hospital. Twenty-nine-year-old Artie Watson was treated for gunshots in the leg and hand.
Police say a man told investigators that Green and Watson attempted to rob him and another man pulled out a handgun and started shooting as others playing basketball yelled to children on the playground to go inside.
Edward Jackson III has been charged with criminal homicide. Watson has been charged with attempted aggravated robbery.

It should be noted that the Memphis Commercial Appeal is rabidly anti-gun and was a very vocal opponent to the new Tennessee State law which allows Handgun Permit Holders to carry their weapon in parks. The extreme leftist views of this newspaper has earned it the local nick-name "The Communist Appeal".

Drug deal, robbery lead to homicide
At a local park where children were playing on a nearby playground, an attempted robbery during a drug deal turned fatal Thursday night, resulting in the city's 16th homicide of the year.
Antonio Green, 28, was fatally shot in the chest after he and another man attempted to rob two young men engaging in a drug transaction, said Lt. Tim Carroll, head of the Chattanooga Police Department's major crimes division.
"When people decide to enter into the drug transactions, there's two things that usually end up getting taken -- the drugs and the money," Lt. Carroll said. "Unfortunately, sometimes a life is taken, too."
Police said Edward Jackson III, 18, and Darryl Williams Jr., 22, were at a playground at 1000 Queens Drive in East Chattanooga about 5 p.m. allegedly involved in a drug transaction.
Mr. Green, 28, and Artie Watson, 29, approached the men and tried to rob them, at which time a physical altercation ensued, Lt. Carroll said.
Mr. Jackson allegedly pulled out a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun and began shooting, Lt. Carroll said. Mr. Green suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right chest, while Mr. Watson was shot in the lower left leg and left hand, the lieutenant said.
Two people playing basketball near the playground heard the gunshots and dove to the ground while telling children on the playground to leave, Lt. Carroll said.
One of the players helped load an unconscious Mr. Green into a vehicle to take him to Erlanger hospital, where he later died, Lt. Carroll said.
No money or drugs were taken during the attempted robbery, police said.
A few minutes later, police were called to 2112 Delano St. on a report of another shooting, spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval said. They found Mr. Jackson bleeding from the head, an injury suffered during the altercation, but determined he had not been shot, she said.
Mr. Jackson was charged with criminal homicide, police said, while Mr. Watson was charged with attempted aggravated robbery after he was released from Erlanger.
Mr. Jackson and Mr. Watson are scheduled to appear Nov. 13 in Hamilton County General Sessions Court.
The homicide is the city's 16th this year. By the first week of November 2008, police had worked 19 homicides, records show.
Mr. Green's family members could not be reached for comment Friday.

Interesting isn't it? The Commercial Appeal's version would give the impression that two innocent citizens were attacked by gun wielding bad guys in an otherwise peaceful city park. Thus providing them more reasons to oppose the guns in parks law. Also note that there is no mention of the weapon. It would seem that a lowly .25acp doesn't fit the CA's firm anti-assault weapon mentality. So if it served them no purpose to mention it. Had the weapon been of large caliber or used evil high capacity magazines you can bet it would have been prominent in the story.
Sometimes the lie lays in what is chosen not to report.
But a lie of omission is still a lie.
