Hello everyone,

I have a model 10-5 that I want to install a bobbed hammer in. I recently found a factory bobbed hammer for a mod 10 but this newer hammer has the spring loaded hammer nose. My mod 10-5 is the newest smith I own and was wondering can I install the bobbed hammer on my gun or were there other changes I need to be aware of when smith went to the spring style nose.

I'd also like to know if this is possible...but couldn't you just try it and see if it works? Just lower the hammer by hand and watch the nose--if it goes into the slot and protrudes correctly, then I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I was planning on installing it and seeing if it worked. But I figured before I go through the effort I would ask if anyone knew firsthand.

If you'll look, you'll find many old S&Ws with and without springs. As far as I can tell, as long as the firing pin pivots freely it's not going to make a difference.

My 686-1M's hammer nose broke a while back, so I replaced it. It was supposed to have a little spring in it, but that disappeared somewhere...and it hasn't affected function or reliability at all.

I was wondering if having the pivot rivet (zuh?) moved for the spring made a difference, but it sounds like the OP should be good to go.

Hi everyone, sorry it took so long to get back to this thread. So I installed the hammer and made sure the hammer nose (firing pin) pivots freely when the hammer is "dropped" and everything works like a charm.
