Default Wondering about going after K22

I know an individual who has a 4" Blue K 22Mag. I have not seen it in a year but it was near perfect. I did not get a close look, don't know model number. Every once in a while the owner says something like it might be available. What's it worth? So I can make him an offer next such occasion...

It maybe a model 48. In EXC. condition I would say $550
to $600, that is with the box. I think I would let him quote the price. You might get it a good deal. Don

A note of caution. S&W marketed a K-frame gun with the label ".22 Magnum" on the barrel, but that does not mean .22 rimfire magnum. It is the model 53, a tour de force of engineering that allows one to shoot both the .22 Jet cartridge (a necked down .357 Magnum) and, with chamber inserts or an auxiliary cylinder, .22 LR. The stock Model 53 does NOT chamber .22 WMR, though some owners have modified the .22 LR capacities to permit the magnum rimfire ammo to be used.

So Model 48 -- chambers .22 WMR.

Model 53 -- chambers .22 Jet and .22 LR.

Hawkeye is in the ballpark on the 48 price, but Californians would probably have to go higher. For the Model 53, price is going to depend on how many of the optional accessories are available to go with the gun. For a four incher in excellent condition, expect to go close to $1000. (But others will think that is too high.)

I'm pretty sure it is a M48 22 Magnum Rimfire. I don't believe it has the 22 LR optional cylinder with it... at least the owner never mentioned it. I don't know if he'll really let go of it or if he'll want to keep it.
