Has anyone experienced problems with the fixed factory sights on the Night Guard revolvers not shooting to point of aim?
I am not referring to elevation, as that can be fairly easily corrected. I am talking about any windage problems that cause the revolvers to shoot significantly farther to the right or left than point of aim.
Yep. It's not the shooter. it's the sights. They suck on my 310! Very inconsistant though the half gallon of thread lock to keep the screws tight helped settle them a bit on mine.
The revolver I am referencing has been shot by three experienced shooters. All shooters are right handed.
Shooting has been done from standing two-hand supported and from sand bags. Shooting distance has been 7 yards and 15 yards, measured.
Ammunition shot has been 240 grain Remington factory HP ammo, a handload using a Speer 200 grain Gold Dot hollow point, and a handload using an Oregon Trail Laser Cast 240 grain SWC.
Elevation varies slightly with all loads, as would be expected due to varying bullet weights and velocities. The issue is windage.
For all shooters and all loads described, this revolver averages placing bullets 2 3/4" to the right of point of aim at 7 yards and 4 3/4" to the right of point of aim at 15 yards. Accuracy is good, with groups ranging in szize from 1 1/4" to a maximum of just over 2".
Groups impacting 2 3/4" to the right of point of aim at 7 yards and 4 3/4" to the right of point of aim at 15 yards are remarkably consistent.
Groups impacting 2 3/4" to the right of point of aim at 7 yards . . . are remarkably consistent.
That is exactly what I have been experiencing. The last time at the range was a little better and not as far to the right after I locked down the screws. I've already got the moonclips loaded for tomorrow's range session. I'll see if it continues.
Thanks very much for the feedback. Looking forward to the report after your range session. I have mine scheduled for a gunsmith visit next week to discuss our options.
