Could no longer say "NO"!
...so I ordered this Model 64-6 from J&G Sales. As you know, these are DAO, appear to be little used and much carried. This one is in top condition except for the Uncle Mike's grips which are well worn. Does anyone know where they came from? Can they be converted to SA/DA easily? I plan to polish this one and will post photos of the before and after when done. By the way...J&G is having a sale this weekend...if I had only waited! Thanks to all for a great site! UPDATE: Just learned that this revolver came from BRINKS.

Are they true DAO guns, or has the hammer spur simply been milled off? Either way, you'll need a new hammer. If the single action sear has been removed, you may need a new trigger, as well.

As they say, there's no such thing as 'paying too much', but there is such a thing as 'paying too early'.
I always figure that in a year of use, I won't care too much that I paid $700 for a gun that I could've paid $650 for if I had waited a few weeks.
That being said, maybe I should pick up a used 64 and try out some polishing...and maybe figure out how to cut the grooves in the backstraps like the older S&Ws.

I wouldn't have waited either. Sometimes you wait and wind up missing out. Good luck with your new piece.

Wating for something you really want is a bad thing. When you shoot and enjoy it noone will remember or care about what you paid for it.I was so happy I bought my NIB CS9 when I did.It was a little expensive but I didn't care.In retrospect it was a very good thing because the supply dried up and the prices hit the roof 3 months after I got mine...Mike

Actually, some of them have grooved backstraps, my nephew ordered five of them for himself and some friends, and one of them had a grooved backstrap...turns out S&W produced 64s with a grooved backstrap for about 18 months in 1996-97, according to SCSW.

This backstrap is solid and it's been cased in the rubber grips. How does one lighten the trigger pull? I suspect these "guard guns" have a heavy pull for the lawyers. It is very smooth, though!
