SW Model 19-3, 357, 4" barrel
My father passed on his Model 19 to me, and I KNOW he purchased before 1971 sometime. Can anyone tell me the manufacture date? S/N is: 2K59xxx. Also, what is approx. value? Gun is in near perfect condition, with approx. 500 rounds (max) or less fired. Thanks much for your help/advice!

It looks like 1971. Maybe he bought it new. If you still
have the box papers and tools I would say about $500 is
what it's worth. IMO Don

If you lived in California a model 19 with box and papers goes for $600.00 or more.
I would always treasure the revolver my father left me.
Enjoy your new revolver.

I hope you don't plan on selling the gun your father left you. I hope you are asking value for insurance purposes. The model 19 was a very popular revolver for police who may have been allowed to carry a blue magnum revolver. It's stainless counterpart is the model 66. Hundreds if not thousands of each rode in police duty holsters on any given day in the 1970's and 80's. Your father could not have left you many revolvers finer than the 19, treasure it.

I love mine that belonged to an LEO. I don't even mind that he had it nickled, Lord willing and the creek don't rise, one day my boy will get the chance to pose the same question.

passing guns on
Although it is nice advice to encourage others to keep guns that were given to them, current economic conditions for some folks dictate that keeping a roof over their heads or food on the table trump retention of hand-me-downs. My hunting partner just bought a nickel 29 from 1959 or 60 for bargain basement price and I chastised him for lowballing the guy. He explained that he had known the old man who passed away, as well as the son who inherited them. He gave the son $200 more than he was asking and still felt bad about buying the relic, until he found out the old man had stashed over 300 guns in his house. You can't keep them all. And most of your collection will be sold by someone eventually.
