Posting for a friend, who has a new 41 Mag and can't find anyone who has 210 Gr. Hornady XTP's in stock. He has a new (to him) Mod 57 and has obtained some cast bullets, but can't seem to locate any jacketed. I've checked the usual sources, Midway, Graff's, Powder Valley, etc. but all are "Out of Stock", (getting to hate that phrase).

Any idea's?

Berry's has 210 gr. plated bullets for the .41 magnum. I received a shipment of 500 earlier this month.

Check your local gun shows. I found 500-210gr, hard cast last weekend and could have bought 1000.

Mid-South Shooters Supply is a good source for all things Hornady, but they show the .410 XTPs to be "overdue," i.e., backordered indefinitely. I have some Hornady 6.5 Grendel ammo on backorder there, with the same comment, and with hopes to live long enough to see it.

I think I have at least a part of a box of .410 XTPs I'd sell, and I might even have a full box plus a few in another box. I don't like them much for my Model 58, since they need to be driven too fast to expand. Accurate as hell, though. E-mail me at the address in my profile, and I'll try to remember to check to see if I'm right about having them.

I have some oldschool Hornady 210 grain jhp, with the exposed lead bases. I can't shoot them in my Desert Eagle so if he wants to contact me, I'd be willing to offer them to him for a reasonable price.

Just for some perspective here: Reloading (and shooting) is a long term proposition. While its frustrating to want some item or component right now and not be able to obtain it, we see most things over time. Part of this current shortage of ammo was caused buy us getting fed up with spot shortages and just buying things when we see them. That as opposed to buying when we "need" it. People have become used to the convenience of just being able to run out to a grocery, or in this situation the local gun shop and picking up anything the day they need it.

We have the other extreme here, too. Once you've wanted some item and can't find it, you vow it won't happen again. Then when you begin seeing things you know you'll want in the future, you just buy it.

.41 Mag components have never been in great supply. Its kind of a cult caliber. Those of us who have them and love them understand the shortage problems very clearly. Its probably the biggest defect in the cartridge, the lack of adequate supplys. Worse, the shops that have carried the caliber specific components (cases and bullets) sometimes can't sell the stuff they've had in stock (sometimes for years.) So their solution is to just liquidate it at the next gun show. They haul it in and mark the prices down to where it will sell.

If you don't attend shows, you don't ever see that side of the business. I have no idea what brand bullets I have in my ammo can full of .41 stuff. I just stumble through the gun shows looking in general. When I see packages or boxes of 41 mag bullets, I look at the prices. If it seems low or crazy low, I just buy them for the fun of it. I plan on never running out and the only way I can assure that is to just buy bullets when I see them at great prices. Maybe I'm the enemy here. I buy stuff I don't need immediately because I foresee the needs in the future, and I want it. I've done the same thing with 22 Jet bullets, too.

One of my sons and his brother-in-law were at the range the other day. They went to the attached gun shop and came back complaining about the prices of ammo and components. Think about the other side of the supply and demand curve. If the shop has everything you'd ever want in stock, their prices will need to be high enough the hoarders (me) won't clean them out. If their prices are low, word will get around and folks will come from all over to buy. That will result in bare shelves. Maybe its better the prices are way too high but the items are available to those who are willing to pay.

And a big part of the problem seems to be people with long memories, who remember when that item was $5 a box. Today the wholesale price is near $20, and the retailer needs to get $26 just to cover shipping, electricity, and clerks salaries.

I bought my 41 mag in late '70's anything 41 was in very short supply no mega store but a local reloading shop knew I wanted 41 mag brass and bullets every time I went in I bought what he had didn't question what it was just bought it

The OP specifically asked about the Hornady offering, else I would have pointed him toward Tennessee Valley Bullets which makes superb bullets.

41 mag shooters can't be to picky about bullets unless they want to make their own

I just check with 2 of my distributors, they don't have any either. Eventually, Hornady will make some more. It's amazing that Hornady can even keep up, with as many products as they make. The Speer 210 Gold Dot is a fine bullet also. Bob!

It looks like Midway and Cabela's both have Nosler and Remington JHP .41 bullets. The Nosler's shoot very well in my .41's.

As a compromise, I cast a .41 bullet with gas check, if you want a couple hundred email me.

Second what rburg said about the 41, it is a Cult Caliber

I am known locally as the "41" guy. At gun shows, if it's a 41 mag, usually several people will tell me who and where.

Afraid that it's gotten to the point where I can actually turn down a really nice 57 if I already have one. A friend has/had a really nice 57 in the wood box with everything for $500. Had it for the past 3 shows. No one wanted it cause it's a "41" and no one in town has anything for it.

Years ago, a local gun shop had a clearance on it's entire inventory of 41 mag bullets. I asked them how much for it all? They made me an offer I couldn't refuse......

Good thing the Wife want to learn how to shoot Magnum loads. She's OK with my target loads. If Hawaii ever gets CCW, I have a pair of ex PD 58s that will become matching His/Hers CCW guns.

Like rburg, I don't know what kind of 41 "stuff" I have.

I've been loading nothing but cast the last 20 years. It makes my life so much easier. The first thing I ask when I go into a gun shop is, do you have any .41mag.

In the last 2 years I got one box of silver tips. The guy said, it had been sitting there for years.

It's a fantastic caliber it's really a shame it never really got more popular.

I love all those who don't load or shoot the .41 mag - leaves more for those of us who do. Brass and bullets are available - just have to look a little longer.
