OK, that was a crummy thing to do, no pictures here. What I would like to know is what kind of cameras do you people use to take these beautiful pictures? Lenses?

Nikon D70 with a SB 600 flash attachment. Autofocus, Nikkor, 18-70 mm lens with a UV filter. Revolver is positioned in a D-flector (see at Product Photography, Digital Product Photography & Tabletop Studio Background by Sharpics.com).

I am thinking of upgrading to a Nikon D90 (more megapixels).

I use Canon digital, with a combination of Canon and Sigma lenses. (The only one I've had any trouble with is a Sigma, but I don't know if that was a fluke or not.) I recently upgraded to a digital Rebel XSi, which is 12.2mp.

Best tip I can give you- get a high-quality circular polarizer for EACH lens you have. It is invaluable for cutting reflections, and for deepening colors in outdoor shots. You'll be amazed what it can do to your photos!

It ain't the equipment that take the picture........it's just a tool. It's the man behind the camera, that determines how the picture looks! He has to know how to use whatever he has, to get optimum results.

I used to take pretty decent photographs. But, it was pretty expensive. That was 30 years ago.....interests have changed since then. Now, I take quick snap-shots........that's good enough for me. Bob

I used a 5 megapixel Nikon Coolpix 5700 to take these photos ko41's Photostream
Outdoor shots are with natural lighting, "studio" shots are lit with
compact florescent bulbs in brooder lamps.

I use a little H&P camera from Wal-Mart that I paid $80 for. I download the card to a program called Picasa (free download) and crop and "fix" on it. Then on to Photobucket to store them.
The key is light and not too much of it. A overcast day is best to take pictures by.
We have some GREAT photographers on this forum. I ain't one of them.

I'm kinda backward from everyone here. I use those "natural light" bulbs with no flash with a blue background. I still get definition and color. Lowly HP 327. A whole 5.0.

GF, gotta agree with the others. You're a photographer whether you think of yourself as one or not. In fact, your shot has put some images in my mind that I will try to capture some day. Nice use of light.

As to the original question, I pretty much do everything with a Canon PowerPoint G9, which lives at the high end of the compact camera market; it is a very powerful camera that has dozens of features that I don't actually use. The successor G10 and G11 versions are undoubtedly its equal if not its better. In the olden film-based days I had a fairly simple Canon body and a bunch of lenses, but I mostly used a 50mm macro lens and a bellows for detail work. Today the G9 has such a fantastic built-in macro feature that I use the camera for everything from distance shots to frame-filling S&W medallion close-ups. And it fits in a pocket .

But the basic point, as already noted, is that the camera is secondary to the person who uses it. If you can force yourself to turn off the automatic flash and use diffuse natural light to illuminate your subjects, even your snapshots will look great.

For instance, here's a G9 product from a tripod against a seamless white board background under distributed fluorescent light:

One of the things that has interested me about this forum is that gun people are often also camera people.

Thumbs up There are some Great Photos on this Site

Although not near the quality of many of the photos on this site, I use my wife's Cannon 40D with whatever lens she has on it. I use a tripod, the natural light in my daughter's room and a couple of white poster boards, to direct the light where I want it to go. Also, and most importantly, I try and get good subjects to photograph, like these 357's...

I do not consider myself a great photographer, BUT I do have fun.

I used to be a professional photographer in my youth, with a bag full of 35mm Nikon gear. Had to sell it when the money ran out.

Lately I use a Canon 8mp Digital Rebel with either a Tamron 17-35mm (EXCELLENT glass for the money!) or Canon's 100mm f2.8 Macro.

Lighting is an old canopy bed and a diffused camera-mounted Canon flash bounced off of the canopy. You might see the canopy ribs reflected in the finish in this shot (revolver described in the M28 conversion thread).

Default Beautiful pictures

I bought a Nikon D200 with a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-200MM lens.I got it specifically to photograph my holsters & guns;I don't use it to take many other photos.I am a lousy photographer who benefits from having excellent equipment.I have good local advice from a couple of pros & improve whenever I take the time to ask, listen & implement. I use a light tent & try to get afternoon light. My photography is hit or miss but I get good details on my leather which is what I wanted. The best I can say is that I'm slowly learning & may one day measure up to the fine equipment I have.
Regards,
turnerriver
