While 1911's are straight, they have much more of an angle than the straigt 3rd gens. Thus, the feel of a curved 3rd gen feels more like a 1911 in my hands.

I don't feel that the straight are that much smaller. I find that the curved tends to bring the muzzle up and point more natually for me. Like on 1911s'.

Not hogues, those are the stock S&W grips. Those are hard plastic, and the hogues are rubber.

I traded my straight for curved. Its not much larger. This gave me the same feel as my Sigma and a mdl39. However I got a Hogue and it is way too large for me.

Go to the 5946TSW found thread on page three. The gunbroker listing has some good pics of the curved grips.

I had the curved grips on my 5906. When the 4006 was produced, I handled the straight grips, and found I liked them better. I didn't notice that they felt smaller, but that may have been the case.
In any event, I ordered the straight grips from S&W, and have had them on my 5906 ever since.
I have fairly small hands, and I have tried both the Hogue rubber grips, and the wood ones. They were both too big for me.
It was a pity, with the wood grips, because they looked so nice on the pistol.

I got my 4566 with a straight grip and found that it had the tendency to point naturally low, and it just felt kind of weird. Ordered up a curved grip and found that it helped tremendously. I think the best answer for you is to hit up a gun shop or show soon and handle both. See what feels/points better in your hands.
Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

I have tried three different gun shops and none had a metal smith. One place told me .. "we just cant sell them" So I am out on a limb here until I get hold of mine.
I do understand now the whole being miserable with the 10 day wait thing now. I have become spoiled here in AZ where I can walk in and walk out with a gun. This waiting for the gun to arrive is killing me!!
