Go to your local Wal-Marts in your area. Maybe you could even get to know the person working the sporting goods section to find out when they get new ammo in. Everytime I go to Wal-Mart I am on the prowl for 9mm Luger and .22LR. Luckily my wife just scored me (4) 525 round boxes of Remington .22LR and I picked up the last 2 boxes of 550 Federal .22LR Wal-Mart had the other day. Picked up a couple thousand rounds of 9mm over the past couple of months from just checking Wal-Mart periodically.

There are a lot of small stocks of ammo all over the place. Trouble is finding it. I have purchased a lot of ammo off gunbroker lately. Best place I have found where people are offering these small stocks in one place.

The closest Wal-Mart to me gets ammo in on Tuesdays. Once you figure out when it comes in it's easy to get it. With Federal 550 packs for under $15 it's the best place to buy .22LR in my opinion.

Depends on the day you go. It is well known that ammo is becoming harder to get in dept stores.
You can find it at specialty gun shops though. You will pay top dollar for it there. The Winchester 100rd pack of 9mm I have bought at Wal-Mart costs $21.97. At a local gun shop it costs $35. Same exact box.

No need to apologize for the rant. I see the same thing happening when I go to gun shows. WalMart ammo at twice the price.

wallmarts here never have them. In fact, there stockpiles are about gone of evry type of ammo. I think they may be getting rid of ammo sales completely soon.

Yeah, I used to only buy ammo when I needed it. Now I buy it when I see it, don't know when it will be available in the future.
Saw some Fed 550 Bulk packs today at Wally World. Bought 3 of them.

IF I run across a big stash of these Federal 550 packs I will let you guys know if anyone is interested in buying some. You of course would have to pay shipping unless you are close enough to pick em up. I am in Eastern NC so if you are interested in at least getting info as to where the ammo shows up then send me a PM and I will let ya know when I find some at Wal-Mart or if I find somewhere that has a good deal on other .22LR brands.

I buy nearly all my ammunition in bulk off the internet.
Typical price is 3330 Rounds of bulk Winchester for about $100 delivered. 10 boxes of Winchester "333." Best price I've seen for it at local retail is about $15 per box.
Once you find what your rifle likes, buy it in bulk.
When considering if a .22LR AR15 is an economic training weapon note that M855 Ball is running between $450 and $500 per 1000 delivered. 45¢ - 50¢ a shot vs. 3¢ for .22LR. Both are bulk prices.

went to wally world last night to stock up.
all out of federal bulk, no winchester 333, only CCI 100 round boxes for 4 times the price of the bulk stuff
"when will you have more in" i asked
"whenever the distribution center sends more" i was told
they do have good prices on .223. i buy their federal 55gr FMJ 100 pack for $39.97. 40 cents per is pretty good. they only had two boxes...now they have none. any time i find .223 ammo for 40 cents per i think it's a decent deal.
also got 250 rds of UMC (remington) .45 ACP for $84.97.

this may be a little off topic, but.. I watched "The Road" yesterday. pretty damn good movie, but I couldnt help but think, " how more firepower could have changed that situation". which prompted me to go down to the gun shop and grab another mag for the 15-22 and another for my xd, along w/ another 100 rounds of 7.62, 9mm and 500 of .22. Obviously Ive already got plenty, but too much is never enough.
obviously, a .22 wouldnt be the first choice of rounds for a man-target, but given the scenario in that movie, a 15-22 wouldnt be a bad idea (see: homemade noise suppressor ).. assuming you have a good backup should you be the victim of a missing extractor or any of the other known 15-22 ailments!
