Trying to find year of MFG for 1st model lemon squeezer
I just purchased my first lemon squeezer; .32 saftey hammerless 1st model. I know from Supica's book, that manufacturing occurred between 1888-1902; serial numbers 1 - 91417.
This gun I just purchase is a blue model, serial number 686XX. Can someone please tell me the year of manufacturer.
Thank you.

You can call S&W and ask. I'm not sure if there's any resource in a book for that model S&W or not.

Ed, my information was from a letter from Roy Jinks, 68682, shipped from the factory on December 3, 1898. again, this is for .32 Safety Hammerless Model. Please confirm your model number, then I will email Roy to see if he can find out the 3 year shipping difference for two guns that are only 76 digits off from each other.

Info. on 68758, a 1st Model .32 Safety, is from a 2005 Roy Jinks email to Larry Slaten. A 3 yrs difference in shipping dates for close serial numbers is not uncommon for S&Ws. Guns were shipped from the Vault in a "Last In- First Out" sequence, not by serial number sequence. The only way to find out the manufacture date is to look in the Floor Foreman's Day Book for the date the gun was finished and sent to the Vault. That info. is not in the shipping records and Day Book may not be in the S&W records at the CVHM, as the Floor Foremen were Contractors paid by piece work and their Day Book records were their property. Some S&W collectors have some of these books. Your gun was probably made in 1895, as the "made" date is generally in sequence with the serial numbers. Ed.
