"Point Blank". Lee Marvin and his Model 29. Thursday Night
This great crime movie is on TCM, Thurday at 8:00 ET. Must be PM. This is the one before Dirty Harry where Lee Marvin uses a 4" Model 29, shooting it constantly. He practiced with live ammo before filming to get the recoil right. Don't miss.
Mel Gibson did the remake in Payback. Equally good.

Thanks for the heads up.
Bear in mind that I'll need a prompt Thursday.
The old steel trap is oxidizing at an alarming rate...

I'll look for it on YouTube and at the used video store.

Prime Cut
This is another Lee Marvin movie that you wont see but I ran a search on the net and found used dvds and new ones for 7 dollars some had free shipping, NOTE this is a very violent movie as best as I can remember with a great combine chase and mob collectors being made into hotdogs and sent back to Chicago. It has Gene Hackman also and was done in 1972. Jeff

I have both on DVD and love to watch them, Lee Marvin was sure a good tough guy actor. Wish we had some like him now.
Mel Gibson's re-make was ok, Gibson has a new one coming out Jan 29 called Edge of Darkness looks pretty good.
Gene hackman played the bad guy in Primecut, and he had a crazy brother

I saw that. I think it had some doped-up girls awaiting sale, penned in a fence.
The meat plant means of disposing of bodies really left an impression. Hot dogs haven't tasted the same since...

Hackman is great as "Mary-Ann".
"Why do you eat guts?"
"I like 'em!"
It also stars Sissy Spacek in one of her first roles.
There's some good work with an S&W Model 76 in it too.

I saw that at the show as a kid. Prime Cut. Sissy Spacek is the main naked white slave chick. Whe n they're all eating Gene Hackman is asked what's on his plate. He says, "Guts. I like eating guts." Very violent. But, when I was six my mom took me to see Psycho.OOPS! JRM53 ALREADY MENTIONED THAT STUFF ABOUT PRIME CUT. That guts scene was memorable to me as a kid.

Keep in mind that with "Payback," the remake of "Point Blank", with Mel Gibson two versions exists: The original in which Gibson narrates a lot of the film and rides off to Canada with his girlfriend in the end. In the director's cut which was issued about a year ago on DVD Gibson is all shot to pieces at the end, dies and the Outfit wins.
Gibson didn't like the way the original story was by the young director/writer and he had scenes reshot; then the studio in "reissuing" the film on DVD decided to go with the director and the way it was originally shot. The scene with Gibson and his wife is particulaly brutal. I think it is truly the better version.

The original "Edge of Darkness" made in the UK was a four hour spellbinder. Actors not unlike the original "Day of the Jackal" were well known but not popular character actors. If it is a condensed version of the original you won't go get pop corn while it is on. I think it was a series in the UK. Condensed into a made for TV movie. Like the day of the jackal no one actor dominates the film, just the story. I saw it in 87 while I was recovering from a plane crash and couldn't move much (captive audience) so I saw every damn minute. I even got a little pissed when somebody came and visited while it was running.

Thanks for the heads up on Point Blank. I just set my DVR to record it. Lee Marvin was the real deal; a Marine combat veteran during WWII. Always one of my favorite actors. I still miss him and John Wayne - they broke the molds on those two.

I read somewhere once where Lee Marvin said he shot a Japanese soldier and took the gold out of his teeth. And when drunk with freinds would shoot his gun in his house. Seems like a fun guy to hang out with.
Dangerous maybe but pretty interesting.
