Default Anyone like NAA mini-revolvers?

I just sent in a cashier's check for a North American Arms mini-revolver, .22LR, 1-5/8" barrel, with holster grip. Purchased it through Gunbroker, and probably won't receive it for a week or two. Whenever I read a post like this from one of the members, I usually ask myself "why didn't he ask us BEFORE he bought, rather than after the fact?" In my own defense, I had done my research and made a decision I think I will be happy with. Now, who else has a NAA revolver, and how do you like it?

I have had one in .22 mag for a few years. It seems to be well made. I haven't shot it extensively but it has functioned 100% when I have. I have mixed feelings about it. As a serious weapon for problematic social encounters, it has a lot to be desired. It is a single action. It is slow to fire repeat shots with. It has to be taken apart to reload it. The sights are virtually non-existant and I can't hit much beyond a few feet away. Despite these traits, I plan to keep it. I carry it as a BUG to a BUG sometimes. I find that my KT P32 is about as easy to carry/conceal and far more effective. It is a cute little gun though.

.....they are well made.....and they do seem to fire when you pull the trigger....

I just haven't found a use for this class of revolver.

Howdy,

I've had, and extensively shot, the .22 magnum version of this little pistol for many years. With much practice, you CAN get to be pretty good with this little Guy! Back when I shot it regularly, I could keep all five shots in a 4" circle, at about five yards, more than accurate enough for close-up self defense, if push came to shove. Of course, it's not the most powerful caliber, but I seriously doubt that even any of it's detractors would volunteer to be shot, center of mass, with five .22 magnum rounds from this little popper!! I have one good friend, a retired LEO, who once saved his own bacon by using his own NAA .22 maggie to stop a knife attack on himself. Killed the perp, too. So, even though, as in many cases, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", I trust my own NAA .22 maggie, and feel comfortable shooting it, with confidence that it will do what needs to be done, if, God forbid, I ever had to do so. Practice, practice, practice, and you can become a very good shooter with your new little popper. Take care, and God Bless!

Every Good Wish,
Doc

Coppers used to call them "onion field guns". I've often been tempted to buy one. I'll be interested hear what you think of yours when you get it.

My .22 mag sounds a powerful report and blows a muzzle flash a couple of feet at night. If you fired it at a close range attacker he'd think by dang you had a gun. It ain't a 340PD, but it is better protection than a Desert Eagle at home.

Default Mini Revolver

I bought a .22 LR version over a decade ago. Carried it a lot in my left pocket. It was fun to shoot. One day the mainspring broke. I called the company and they sent me a new one with instructions. It's now in about 20 pieces in a manila envelope, waiting to be sent in to NAA.

I've had one for years, great gun to stick in your pocket if you otherwise can't carry a gun.

I qualified with one several years ago, to be my up close and personal BUG. The qualification process was slow and uncomfortable. I did not requalify with it but I still have it.

Default I Like Mine

I use my 1-5/8" 22Mag occasionally as a back-up, or when I'm wearing shorts. At 6 oz, with their small, leather holster, it'll hide anywhere, and a 22Mag solid should penetrate pretty well, especially at short range.

Good, well-made revolver.

I have one in .22 mag. I carry it with me sometimes when I am riding my motorcycle. I used to own a Freedom Arms mini revolver, also in .22 mag. The NAA is better because it allows you to park the hammer between the chambers. This beats leaving the hammer down on an empty cylinder. Neither is any fun at all to shoot.

I've got one in .22LR w/1" bbl. and folding holster grip. Usually carry it in watershorts pocket when camping at the lake, where rattlesnakes are often encountered. Also carry it in hunting pack or etc. for administering coup de grace to downed critters. Mine, anyway, despite crude sights, is capable of consistently hitting a bottle cap at about eight feet, sufficient for snakes &tc.

I love mine. 22 WMR. Don't ask me why though. Probably just because it is so flippin' little and cool. Think about the profit per ounce of materials used that NAA has enjoyed on those little dudes. I think the "Earl" looks cool too but defeats the whole purpose I guess.

I have two, a .22mag & LR. The .22 mag only produces 100 - 150 FPS more then the LR, but is much easier to shoot simply 'cause it's bigger.

They make great CCW's for sweatpants or jammies.

Default I love mine, It has only one use for me.

To put down the occasional unruly Halibut. I got real tired of bashing in the heads of halibuts once gaffed and brought on board. I hold on to it real good and pop one in the head of the halibut with my NAA 22 lr. The holster it came with was ****. No way to secure it from falling out if you bent way over. So I made a simple belt loop holster with top strap. Problem solved.

Regardless of anything else You gotta admit They just look cool.
My father in law always carried one in his shirt pocket. He called it a "nose gun". He always said he didn't want to shoot anyone unless they had hold of him, then he would pull it out and stick it in thier nose. Bye Bye brain! nuff said

As for me, mine (.22 WMRF) resides in my back pocket most of the time.

I've carried a magnum off-and-on for several years now. Sometimes it's the most handgun I can carry. I have a nylon camera case with a velcro flap that holds it and 5 spare rounds in a pocket.

I bought the .22 lr/mag version several years ago. Well made, functioned well, and couldn't hit a target if the muzzle was held against it. My greatest achievement with it was trading it a short time later for what I paid for it.

Thanks for the responses. I live in a peaceful subdivision in a relatively crime-free area, so I usually carry only when I go into one of the nearby cities. (Then, I carry a more serious caliber.) But when I get the NAA mini-revolver, I will use it (1) in the pocket of my bathrobe when I go down to the mailbox to pick up the morning newspaper, and (2) in the pocket of my jacket at all other times, even when I may be carrying a larger caliber gun. Better something than nothing!

Note to "rimfired": Your referenced post was more general. Mine is NAA mini-revolver specific.

I made three mistakes with them. First I bought two of them, which is about three too many. Second, I took one apart: DON'T do this, as you'll never get it back together again. Third, I fired them both at a target. I used the standard NRA timed fire target and shot at 7 yards. Shot two cyliders full from each revolver, a total of 20 rounds. Had zero hits. The sights are so rudimentary that using one for self-defense should be a contact sport: hold it against your assailant's body and pull the trigger. That's the only way you'll connect.
