Default Magpul M&P 15-22 MOE

Well I bought the M&P 15-22 the day before I left for Shot Show because I didn't hear anything about an updated version

Well there was a new M&P 15-22 on display. It had the MOE grip, stock & MBUS. I have those in FDE, but what gets me is the newer version has two ambi QD mounts at the end of the receiver. Perfect for a single point sling.

I'm not too worried, it will probably take awhile to hit the market.

Nope. I'll run by there tomorrow and see if they will let me take a pic. It's also not in the new catalog.

travis from magpul was using this in a training class...notice his ambi sling mount.

I think I will be doing the same thing with mine, that way I can use my ms2 on the 15-22.

i really want to take their class btw.

i've seen more pics on ar15.com

this is gonna sound stupid...but I'm at work and dont have my 15-22 with me...will the grip with the curved backstrap fit mine? I have been shopping for the "saw" type grips without it...thinking that was my only option.

I currently have the original M&P15-22, I'm sure I'd have to sell it for a lot less than what I paid for it($440 OTD) and then will most likely have to wait on this MOE version to come in.

Does anyone think it's worth it to upgrade? I don't need the flash hider(it's only a .22lr, looks great though!)

Does the grip, stock, and Mbus sights worth the upgrade?

Or should I just keep my original?

Thanks!

Oh, one last question: How would I go about selling/transferring this if I can get a buddy of mine to purchase it?

Why not just buy the stock, grip and sights? it should be cheaper or at least easier.

the only thing I'd like to add to my 15-22 is that sling mount...which I am searching the web high and low for a QD swivel attachment drill/router bit, or using uncle mike's drop in swivels (Uncle Mike's Sling Swivels - QD 100 (1") MO10112. MO10112. Uncle Mike's Swivels.)

only you can decide if it's worth the upgrade. from a functional standpoint, the magpul ctr is more stable than the OE stock. i like the miad grip because i can add thicker backstraps for a more comfortable fit. i have the BUIS too so i can look through my red dot without looking through the rear aperature sight. i also think the magpul stuff looks better than the OE but if it was strictly a cosmetic upgrade, i wouldn't have spent the money. magpul stuff isn't cheap.

to answer your question about selling your gun, i don't know what your state laws are. in my state (WI), i would hand you some money, you would hand me the gun and it would be a done deal. i believe that is how most states are unless you happen to live on the left coast or in the NE.

Well.... when you're cutting down trees with an 1800rpm belt fed water cooled.... it's kinda hard not to stand out.

Speaking of Magpul... you ought to mount a MBUS to the barrel of that thing and catch the drippings in a bucket. Make for a cool video. You could name it Melted Back-Up Sight.

I called S&W this morning and the CS Rep had never heard of the 15-22 MOE. He transferred me to someone else and the line just rang and was never answered. I called back and spoke with another CS Rep. He had heard of the MOE and said they will probability be shipped in 3-4 months. It doesn't appear he has a clue and was guessing.

Just to clarify, it's not a CTR stock, it's the MOE stock. It doesn't have the friction lock.

Default I like the look of a short barrel...

Where is that short barrel coming from? I like the looks of it. Has anyone been brave enough to cut their barrel? what are the implications in performance having a short barrel? at 25 to 50 yards?

I use my 15-22 for steel competition so targets are not 100 yards away and the short barrel looks cool. I guess it would be nice to have a second barrel cut to size and replace the barrel depending on the use for the day.

I'm sure belt_fed could do the barrel and Chattanooga enlighten us with the pros and cons of having a short barrel so have at it boys...

can you even buy an extra barrel...so many questions...ha ha ha

Well I did a bit of research and found...

"Short barreled rifle (SBR) is a legal designation in the United States, referring to a shoulder-fired, rifled firearm with a barrel length of less than 16 inches (40.6 cm) or overall length of less than 26 inches (66.0 cm). In the United States, an SBR is an item regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as an NFA firearm. In the absence of local laws prohibiting ownership, American civilians may own an SBR provided it is registered with the ATF, and a $200 tax is paid prior to taking possession of or creating the firearm."

I wonder if the 15-22 pictured is longer than the definition for SBR. Dont have my 15-22 at hand so cant measure but I'm curious...

it's definitely a SBR.

Any rifle (that has a stock) that has a barrel shorter than 16" is a SBR regardless of the overall length.

The overall length is simply another way to qualify a rifle as SBR. Regardless of the barrel length, if the length of the rifle (with the stock fully extended) is below the minimum OAL, then it's considered a SBR also.

Unfortunately, this configuration is not legal in CA (due to the 25-round mag) but I'm curious what is the best price that you're able to obtain one of these through Gallery of Guns?

I was thinking a tad over $500.00 ($505.00 seems like a GREAT deal)

I've already installed a ton of Magpul/Magpul MOE stuff on my CA-compliant version...but I would LOVE to have this MOE version

Thanks for the info!
