Default Model 2 Army Question

I am contemplating a Smith and Wesson No. 2 Army which is prominently displayed in a local shop. The revolver is in very good shape and appears original. It is accompanied by a factory letter dated 1971 (pre Mr. Jinks?) which acknowledges the weapon but also advised the owner at the time that there are no records at the factory to indicate to whom or where it was shipped. The serial number is in the 37,XXX's, making this a late 1864-early 1865 gun, if I read the SCSW correctly. The seller is asking $950.00 for the gun and paperwork. Is this a fair price for a No. 2 Army? Thanks for your input, Lance (Waistgunner)

Can you post a picture with full serial number? The price is in the ball park IF it's about 75% original finish, tight action & hinge, nickel or blue and a 5 or 6 in. barrel and assembly numbers match on major parts. If it's a brown gun, or has surface pitting, knock off $200, or so. The letter adds no value, as current letters will show shipping destination. Ed #15
