Opinions on 29-2 Offered on GunBroker
I was wondering if I could get some feed back on the Model 29-2 being offered through the link below. According to seller the pistol was made in '72 or '73. I've been looking for one as a collector's piece and thought maybe this one is one to be considered.
Thanks

I'm far from an expert but in my opinion that gun is overpriced with a starting bid of $1200. Plus the AS IS- no refund/no exchange policy would be a no go with me. Any reputable dealer should offer the option of returning the gun if there is a problem with it. JMHO.

Ed, welcome to this great forum. If the stocks on this 29-2 are original, it is not a 1972-73 example, but later. Get the serial number prefix from the seller and we'll be able to tell you within a few months when the gun actually shipped.

That's excactly like mine (made in 78), but mine doesn't have the football (speedloader) cut grips which came later than that I believe. That's worth around 750-800 in my neck of the woods.

Those stocks were not found on P and R guns. I believe they came out in the late 80's or early 90's.

No,no,no,no,no! You'd have a better chance of finding what you are lookin' for right here.

I agree with what has been said here. That is quite a turn line for a "safe queen." I don't think those stocks are correct. $1200 sounds steep for that offering.

I wouldn't give more than $750 for it, IF it had a 3 day inspection/return. Nice gun but way too much money.

The seller says it doesn't look like it has been fired, but yet the cylinder shows a pretty visible "turn line" (as stated earlier by wheelgun28, either shot quite a bit or played with a lot) and if you look at photo #2 you can see what appears to be some evidence of top strap erosion from the revolver being fired.
Now, I shot quite a few rounds through mine before any top strap erosion started showing up... Of course the effect was accelerated when I started running my hot handloads through it.

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll just try to be patient and hold out for a nice 1960s or early '70s example.
And 29-1, your right, this is a great forum!

You have been given some good advice here. That gun is too high in price. I feel sure sure you can find one with correct stocks, presentation case, paper work, etc and at a cheaper price than this one.

What are the correct grips for the pistol if dated 1972-1973?

Fellows,
Please note that the rules forbid posting links to live auctions.
I missed this one earlier, but the links still lead to the relisted gun, so I have removed them.
