Default MP 15-22 Vortex Strikefire Adjustments

First a quick range report,
I bought my MP 15-22 about a month ago. Finally got to go put some rounds through it this past Sunday.
Everything went great, I was using federal bulk 550 pack. Awesome gun! Fun to shoot, pretty acurate out to 50yds with the irons. Nice plinking gun.
I ran 1100 rounds through it with just a few fail to fire, chocked those up to the ammo.
I started out with my irons (Magpul), got those sighted in at 25 yards, moved to 50 playing with it. After everyone got a turn to shoot, I attached my Vortex Strikefire to the gun. I had it at the end of the upper, the last rail before the hand gaurd starts.
I could not sight this scope in. I just didn't have enough adjustment to bring the dot down as far as I needed it.
I adjusted the dot as far down as it would go and I was about 4" under the bullseye (consistently).
After I tried my hand, I invited my brother to try his luck to no avail.
I did not try turning the scope updside down, as a friend suggested, this might have ruled out my limits for adjustment was off.
I also did not try putting the scope on the hand guard of the gun, but this is also something I'm not fond of.
I called Vortex support and asked them what I could do, they suggested a shim under the scope or scope mount! Not a decent solution in my eyes. I agreed to do a little more research before they sent me a new one, so here I am.

So anyone out there with this scope have any similar problems, or can anyone offer an idea I haven't tried?

At 50 yards.... as you turned the adjustment was POI improving, say from 6 to 5 and then to 4 inches high, and then you ran out of adjustment?

This may sound like a DUH.... but did you check to see if a little piece of something got between the mount and rail? Take it off and put it back on?

If yes to the above, sounds like you got a bad scope or mount.

25 yards first, then 50 yards, stepped off that is.
@25 yards I was about 4" below the bullseye, 50 yards I couldn't get it on the paper.

I didn't check for an obstruction under the scope mount, but I did move it back one rail to see if that helped and it didn't.
Yes, as I adjusted it, the poi moved up, but ran out of adjustment.

Thanks for the replies, I will check all this today when I get home. I was hoping someone had the vortex mounted with the hi rise mount, and could let me know if they ran into any problems or no problems. Thanks again guys for giving me some ideas.

I had the same problem with my strikefire. I moved it up in front of the upper receiver onto the handgaurd and was able to sight it in just fine. With the red dot on the upper receiver I was not able to use the magnifier, because of the rear sight. Long story short there is no problem with the red dot.

I had the same problem w/ my Vortex StrikeFire. I had it mounted half way on the upper receiver and half way on the hand guard.

These surfaces are not on the same plane and will make the optic point down. I discovered it before I shot it when I was trying to take a picture of the rifle lying on the carpet. When I was playing w/ the picture, the optic appeared to be pointing somewhere different than the barrel.

I would check for the above problem by making sure it is all on one surface or the other.

I had to Google Vortex StrikeFire to figure out what this was all about. An "Aimpoint M68" clone if the photos are correct.

If you're trying to hit the center of a 9" bulls eye target by aiming at the lower edge this may not work at all with this sight. These sights are designed to put the bullet right on the dot, not an artificial or random distance above it.

Mount the sight in line with the iron sights. Zero the irons. Move the dot to the tip of the front sight while looking thru the irons.

I have tried several recommendations I came across.
Re-seated everything, turned the mount around.
I finally called Vortex customer support.
They suggested trying a shim under one side of the ring mount. I gave it some thought, but really didn't like the idea.
The customer service was great. They were really trying to help solve the problem. RMA was a breeze.

I hope this solves my problem. It will probably be a few weeks, but I'll post my results when I get a chance to test it out again.
