pre 29 classic hunter
Was looking for a price if I decide to sell my 29. It's a pre model classic hunter with unfluted cyl, front adj. sites and not stamped classic hunter. this was before they named it the CH. less than 150 rds. I think they only made 500-1000 like this.

From the picture, I believe that is a 29-3, Lew Horton Classic Hunter. Mfg in about 1988. I have it's mate.

Yes it's a 29-3. Just checked, I bought new in July 1988. any idea of it's value today? Nothing about it being a Lew Horton model, looked on box it came in.

I lettered mine, and it was shipped 7/21/88, S/N AZE47XX. Roy listed it as a special run of 5000 for Lew Horton. I currently have a $850 value on mine, ( I keep a relatively current value on all my guns in my database). Yours looks to be in about the same condition as mine, pretty nice.

Thanks. I would think it's worth more because of the special run and unfluted cyl.

I would like to think it is, but doubt if it would sell for much more.

"I would think it's worth more because of the special run and unfluted cyl."
Yeah, but S&W has made lots of runs of 'special' guns and lots of them have unfluted cylinders.
"Worth" is a relative thing. An item is only worth what someone will pay for it, so if you can find someone willing to pay you $1,000, it's worth $1,000, at least to him. If you wouldn't sell it for less than $1,000, then that's what it's worth to you.
I bought mine NIB in July, 1988. Paid $406.94 out the door. I have only put a few, gentle .44 Special rounds through it. I had it for a few years, unfired, and came up with the idea that it might make a passable PPC revolver, which is what the 4 position front sight was originally designed for by S&W. I thought the larger diameter hole from the bigger .44 bullet might pick me up a few extra points over my .38. I figured out the sights and set them, and shot one match with it. No extra points. Decided to stick with my .38 as it was so much cheaper to load. I haven't shot it since.
Nifty, unusual sixgun.
