Knives for the minimalist
I'm of the belief most carry knives much too large for what the need/use. My daily carry is a small red bone German Boker pen 2.75 inches closed.
I'm of the same opinion regarding sheath knives. This one is 5.7 inches OAL with a 2.55 inch hollow ground blade it's rare I need one larger.
Another for which I want to make a stiff paddle square sheath for the back pocket. This one has a 3.5 inch hollow ground blade. I consider this a large knife.

I've carried a Victorinox SAK Tinker for over 30 years and found it fits my needs perfectly. If I lose one, I have a half dozen in reserve.

I don't like a work knife with a blade shorter than 4". Shorter blades don't meet my needs. As a soldier I liked a big belt knife because it could do chopping duty. Other than that, I have no use for a belt knife. On weekends my little 2"ish Spyderco is fine

I have carried a pocket knife for most of my life, including during high school in the 1990's. I consider it an essential daily tool. I have carried a Case knife almost the entire time.
I have carried stockmans, trappers, then Mini-Tappers. I had a slim line trapper that was a long version of the mini trapper. It was pretty nice as it wasn't as thick as the trapper, but had the same length blades.
Went to the Smokey Mountain Knife Works store in Sevierville, TN in 2004 an picked up a Copperlock with Carribean Blue handles. It locks, is a single blade knife. The thin width makes it easy to carry in the pocket of even dress (fancy) pants, yet it's long enough in blade to do just about anything. It has a polished stainless blade, so it always looks nice. Picked up a "fine" grit credit card sized sharpening stone that puts the edge back on it just a few licks.
The actual knife. Note the yellowing (slight) of the nickled bolsters. It's been carried daily since Feb. 2004.

SOG Multi-tool 2.75" Blade 4" handle/tool compartment.
Note: The Sheath is strung through my belt horizontally and is very compact.
I really like the knives i've seen so far they're so simplistic and clean. I hope they keep comming.

We rarely carried big knives, and when we did they were cheap ones. Better served by a hatchet.

I agree, I do most my work with a Case Trapper.
But I keep some "Camp" blades for the cool factor.

My EDC knives,
My work enviroment dictates that I not use some big black tacticool folder. I find the SAK tools very handy. I also carry a Letherman tool. I do carry a fairly large work knife in my toolbelt, and a set of stones to keep them all sharp.

I got this as a baptism gift from my Uncle Sal....never took it off except when I needed it....saved my butt once in the 2nd grade...I didn't get in trouble though since the other kid started it....of course back then, schools had 100 percent tolerance.

The job to be done determines the type and size knife needed. I am retired and all I need is a small pocket knife. I mostly use it to remove security wraps off jars and packages. MY EDC is a 3 1/2 inch single blade blade liner lock...Kershaw LFK. I collect knives and have all types and sizes. For my needs, I just can't see carrying a knife the size of a Buck 110 for normal EDC. (I have serveral Buck 110's and many other larger knives) If I am going camping or hunting then that is another story.

I've always carried a small stainless lockback knife for general use, but these days I carry a Victorinox Ambassador in my pocket for hygenic things like food or envelope opening. It has not only a useful size blade but a sissor and file, plus a toothpic and tweezer. My main knife is an Emerson CQC 7B/wave.
I always carry both.

Here's another BUCK for those outdoor excursions. It's a M9 with a polymer accessory that, IMHO, complements it very nicely.

I have been carrying the same Victorinox Explorer since sometime in the mid-80s. It has been back to the factory once for a rebuild, may be going back again someday. I am really not a knife person but as tools go it's just about essential for getting through the day.
I have a few others picked up over the years; a couple genuine Fairbairn knives, a Glock field knife, and an S&W "SWAT" 3.5" folder that I found and cleaned up.
I do remember that in grade school every boy worth his salt had a pocket knife on him, though. That was our knife culture...

I've carried a little Swiss Army knife, I think they call it the 'Personal', since aobut 1960. I use the tools a lof more than the blades; jsut as well as the blades are really soft.

I carry a Chris Reeve Professional Soldier. It doesn't get much more minimalist than a knife with no handle material. It's a great knife, perfect size and retains an edge like you wouldn't believe. I think it holds an edge better than my Dovo.

I have one of these. I clip it to the left side of my bra first thing in the morning. I put some moleskin on the metal clip, which keeps it comfortable. I use it quite often and sometimes people say, "Where'd that come from??"

Boy, if only I dated women like you back in the day, I could have saved so much time with that stupid double rear clasp...btw, I used to hear "where did that from?" too...but I didn't carry a knife back then....

Smith357, your my man!!
The your first picture would show my service-SAK if it would have the aluminium-silver-sideplates.
When I discovered Chicago and some parts of Michigan, we've visited a WalMart, where they have ammo, guns, and......knives.
The minimalistic and cool design of this Gerber-knife was to much to resist.

I've got a wide variety of knives, but my most used everyday ones are the small fixed blade "Izula" by ESEE Knives (Formerly RAT Cutlery) which I've even field dressed a deer with.
And a good old Buck 301 stockman.

I Like The Old Fashioned Knives
I favor the small and traditional myself. I carry an old family heirloom knife. Its a flint chip about the size of a snowflake that my distant ancester, Onk Jones made about 100K years ago. I believe he dressed out his first mammoth with it. I have dressed out a number of elephants and one Blue Whale with it and its as good as new. Why spend good money for one of those fancy, metal knives when this one is all you need and never rusts? Anyway, I would take a picture of it but its damp here in the winter and the flash powder is too wet for indoor photos...

I have quite a few pocket folders but the one I always seem to have in my EDC pocket is this Spyderco Tenacious - stays sharp, nice and thin, G10 scales and fits my hands perfectly and about $30:
