Another Walmart went politically correct
I just came came back from the Del City Walmart. Hadn't been there in a couple of weeks so I had to make the usual trip to the ammo area. No ammo, not even shotgun. The bare case was still there. Couldn't find anyone in sporting goods to ask but there is not much doubt that we have joined the long list of other Walmarts that do not handle ammo.
Wish that I had bought some more .243 ammo when they had it.

It's amazing. Del City would not exist if Tinker wasn't right next to them. They are free to sell what they want, but that freedom comes from the large base that supplies the shoppers. Find someone else to support and spend your dollars with.

Checked the local Walmart yesterday, they had plenty of 9mm,38's,40's, and 45's in all three major manufactures. Plenty of other ammo too.

A brand new one in Raytown, MO (KCMO Area) dropped guns...but kept the ammo...I happened to walk in the doors on their opening day and could have purchased every box of ammo in the store...the new staff had not yet learned about rationed ammo sales...no six box limit that day!

.38 sp & .45 auto are usually on the shelf along with rifle and shotgun. .357 as well as .44 are rare items here at WalMarts in western NY. No shortage of anything in the gunshops. I pick it up when I see something I want to try or am a little low on.

Ogden, Utah (Hill AFB)
On the other hand...just to balance things out, I just found out today (at my Air National Guard base) that the BX at Hill AFB, near Ogden, UT, has ammo, shotguns and sidearms for sale -- as of just this week! I'm gonna check it out tomorrow after drill. PC-ness still sucks, though...

My local Walmart has a 6 box limit, but when I was there the other day the only pistol rounds they had were 9mm. I've started buying mailorder when I can't find any local ammo.

I heard a rumor that my local Wally would drop guns and fishing stuff in four months.
Went in there day before yesterday and asked the guy behind the counter (who by the way is a real "gunny guy") if there was any truth to that. He swore he hadn't heard that, but he had heard that sporting goods, camping, fishing and hunting stuff would be tremendously cut in the future. He said he didn't know anything about the "four months" rumor.

When they opened the Super Center in Del City and closed the Walmart in MWC they dropped guns but were handling ammo. My daughter lives in Weatherford and the Walmart there keeps a good supply of rifles and shotguns and stocks ammo when they can get it.
If they drop ammo and guns there, a lot of farmers and ranchers along with hunters and shooters will be unhappy. I don't doubt that they eventually will.

All WM's around here dropped guns 2-3 years ago, but still carry plenty of ammo.

I would much rather support the smaller more dedicated sporting goods stores than the big box stores who know mostly nothing about guns or sporting goods even if it costs a little more. The best ammo deals are on line.

But how are you goin to save your " buck-tree-fifty" by not shopping at dat dare Wal-marts? I say screw Walmart and everthing they stand for!
Thier deli meat sucks but it's cheap! I'd rather pay a bit more to buy my food my guns, ammo and clothes rather than "drink thier generic great value kool-aide"!

. I've got a WM about a mile from me. There's another about 6 miles south down the road. The one by me has an ammo cabinet and used to display a fair array of long guns. WM by me: No more gun sales and ammo cabinet is always close to empty. WM down the road: Still sells long guns and has average amount of ammo in stock. I can understand why the close WM is fazing out ammo. That store has turned into a real freak show. I would not feel comfortable selling ammo to 90% of their customers. Do you folks have ALDI grocery stores by you? ALDI is a German company that sells discounted groceries, they moved into the area about 30 yrs ago. Now there's an ALDI store on every other corner.
. I agree WM is retail business/job killing machine and I rarely shop there. Ammo pricing at WM does tend to moderate the price gouging on ammo at local gun stores.

I'm going to disagree with this. When it come to buying ammo,i buy all my range and even some h/ps from walmart because i can can get it at half the price as the local extortion market. What i don't buy from walmart i buy on-line.Two days ago i went and spent $118.00 for 5 boxes of 50 count 155 gr federal hydra-shoks in .40 cal and 1 box of winchester ranger t's.
on-line $118.00 total to my house
local gun shop(extortion market) 1 box of federal hydra-shoks $29.86 going rate in 4 gun shops, and i can't even find Win ranger t's in 357 sig.
$29.89+tax=$31.20 /5 boxes x 25 rounds = $156.00 125 rounds
$118.00 shipped total /5 boxes x 50 rounds $118.00 250 rounds
To buy 250 rounds local would cost me $312.00 so i have saved a total of $194.00
I bought 2/50 round boxes of 147gr Winchester 9mm personal protection ammo from walmart for 14.96 a box, again i went to 3 local mom and pop shops for the same thing,1 box local went for 23.95 a box
14.96 x 2 =$29.92 plus tax at walmart
23.95 x 2 =$47.90 plus tax at mom and pop
a total savings of $17.98 which is another box of ammo at walmart.I don't buy much of anything else major at walmart but i'll hit them up every chance i can for ammo.
I can say the same thing about the local gun trade to but thats another rant.

Buy many Used Guns at Walmart? How's the quality of service? Will they ship or receive guns for you dealer to dealer?
Hmmmmmm? Charlie's got it right....
Buying anything from Walmart be it ammo, scopes, is poor economy and extremely self-serving and short sighted. When they crush the local guy and put him out of business and then later decide to stop "doing guns" where are you going to turn?
Saving $17.98 isn't worth it to me.... I support the local guy who's earned my business.

I buy my dog and cat food from WalMart, and that is it. I was there yesterday and thought I might get a brick of .22 for plinking. The ammo shelves were half bare, only a couple boxes of different calibers, but no .22 ammo whatsoever. My local store does have an array of different long guns, however, but nothing I would ever be interested.

I don't wish to argue, or disagree with, the opinions of long standing and trusted members here. All I wish to do is point out a couple things that apply to my area. Unlike the dying economy around here the independent gunshops have done rather well in the last few years. One of the three within 15 miles of me, rebuilt, and expanded to 3 times it's size. This expansion was in the works and completed in late 2007 before last years Obama gun scare. The other 2 stores have made store improvements only possible because business is great. Good for them. I don't make special runs to WM for ammo. I shop WM for cheap prescriptions, socks, underwear, and frozen pizzas. I might buy the occasional mouse trap also. IF I pass by the ammo cabinet and they've got something I want, I buy it. Gunshops here make PLENTY from Illinoisans. It's almost comical.

I've grown weary of the long hump to the rear of the store on my bad leg for the last year, looking for 9X19. .43 Egyptian they have though!
Seriously, the stores here (Seattle area) are picked clean as fast as it hits the shelf. Even with a 3 box limit. So I do all of my purchasing on line now. But this has reduced as well. Now having enough brass to use in reloading, the only stuff I continue to buy is factory stuff for carry.

Usually stop in the one here about every other Sunday morning after breakfast. That is when they unbox whatever they received in that morning. Today was 1 box of rem-umc 380, about $18+tax,2 cases of the Federal 550 pack of 22's, 2 boxes of .40 and about 8 boxes of the Federal 410 loaded with buckshot for handguns.
I picked up the 380 for a friend.
Went to a local gun show later this morning and saw the Federal 550 packs going for $25 and UP. So after selling 2 handguns there I went back to WalMart and picked up some 22's@$15.49.

Let's see. you schlep to WM ,fight your way through screamin' kids and overly tattooed women who should not be wearing skimpy clothes only to find it impossible to get a clerk to work the counter, then when you do get one they know nothing about the ammo that is no longer on the shelves. Sounds like win/win to me!

I only schlep to WM at 7a.m. when the tattooed, skimps are still in bed. I usually find one of the ten employees in the store to open the ammo locker. Then FTL's and rodent capture devices when necessary.

Damn man,you need to move. We have 3-4 Wal Marts in our area and I've been to all of them at one time or another. They all have guns on the walls and not a bad supply of ammo. I don't see a bunch of women with tatoos and the kids don't seem to scream any more than any place else.
Matter of fact the majority of shoppers there are my neighbors, and well, they look just like me, (I don't have any tatoos). Also, I have yet to meet a surly checker at any of them and never had the greeter not say thank you on the way out.
Just saying.
