Hi, check the number on the bottom of the grip frame for the serial number, or is there a letter in front of the 17xxx?

It should have an M or three-letter prefix to the serial number, on the bottom of the butt?

No problem. They were made from 1977 to 1982 with the pinned barrel, then until about 1999 with the unpinned barrel in 2" (uncommon) and 4". In the past few years there has been a 5", and this year a new 3" version is available. Let us know about the SN and someone can give you the production year for yours.
