Question Mod. 629-4 rebound slide assy.

On a new to me, 629-4, I noticed when tilting the gun around while I was cleaning it up, something would rattle with the hammer down and tilting the gun from barrel down to barrel straight up I can hear a rattle. Seems with the hammer cocked, no rattle.

I had the grip off. I can see the rebound slide assy. and it looked like the spring inside the rebound slide is what is sliding back and forth with the hammer down causing the rattle. It was dry in there (whole action was dry) and after I oiled it a bit the rattle went away.

Should that spring be loose with the hammer down?

Thanks

Ss

There may be a steel rod inside of the spring inside the rebound slide. It is used as a trigger stop and was installed when the gun was built. Another rattle could be the stamped hammer block.

Thumbs up Thanks!

AhHa! Son of a gun. Steel rod inside the spring. I think that's what I was seeing move back and forth and making the noise. I did not know they put one of those in there.

Thanks for posting. That'll get me to stop thinking about that. It did not look like anything was broke... but I kept thinking about it.
