Default Shoots low and left

I am the proud owner of a fine S&W revolver with fixed sights. Using factory loads, low and hi loadings of Bullseye and Power Pistol the gun groups 3" low and 2" left. I feel that there is absolutely nothing that can be done to correct the situation. Grinding the front sight is out of the question with a fine collectible. Any thoughts???

You didn't say at what range this is happening, or the caliber of the weapon. It's its 25 yards, it isn't that ridiculous. If it's 3 yards, there may be an issue.

It is, in all honesty, much more likely to be your problem than the guns problem. If you can get a bore sighter, try it. Spring for a box of factory wadcutters and see how it does.

If you are unwilling to alter the gun, why sweat it?

Suggest shooting the gun at close range slowly in single action. I suggest this because a very common problem is " milking " the grip which involves squeezing the grip at the same time you are squeezing the trigger. Shooting slow and single action will help you correctly diagnose if the gun is off or if it is a technique problem . The quick fix for milking the trigger is to grip the gun tighter and use the Ayoob wedge which is a technique written about by Ayoob where he suggests placing the middle finger of the support hand tight under the trigger guard while wedging the support index finger up against the middle finger. It creates an upward torque of the support hand which mitigates against the downward pull of the milking action. Hope I explained the technique clearly. Good luck.

Default Yes, it can be fixed... they say

JP, I have a 581 at the factory to correct the same problem.

I purchased it from my local gunpusher/ gunsmith, whose shop was a certified S&W repair center back in the day. He assured me that when he went through his 4 week stint at the factory, he saw fixed sight revolvers come in for sight correction.

He also said it was something that wasn't pretty to watch, involving a vise, lead babbit bars, and a large hammer.

After getting further assurances from the customer service reps on their ability to make things right, I went ahead and sent it in. I have another 581 and a 681 as well, and it was just kind of a nuisance to remember to change up on my hold. Off a little more than yours, hitting about 3" left at 25yds.

I guess I'll see how good a job they can do in 2 or 3 weeks. Fingers crossed ;D

Sorry for the omission. The range was 25 yds and slow single action firing. The caliber is 9mm
