Default Frame Questions

On another thread someone posted a great link to what the dash number changes referred to.

Smith & Wesson model changes

This is really GREAT info & thank you to handloads.com & thank you to the one who posted it here.

Now the question. Some of the frames have a 2 letter designation, for example the 14 - 19 are listed as KT.

I have several Model 10s so I know what a K frame is, but what does the "T" signify?

There's also a KA, NT, I&J.

Thanks for the replies. This forum is has been so informative. I usually lurk here everyday because I learn something new almost everyday!

KT = K frame Target (adjustable sights )
NT = N frame target
KA = K frame airweight (aluminum frame )
I = I frame - this is slightly smaller than a J frame and discontinued- wouldn't take a 38 spl
J = J frame
I & J = Originally made on the I frame then changed to the J frame

It's referring to the sights. So a KT frame is a K frame with target sights.
