Default FOBUS holster for sw40v

NEVERMIND I SHOULD HAVE READ AN EARLIER POST.......

Sounds like it isnt such a great choice

Has anyone tried one of the Fobus paddle holsters? I am thinking of getting one but have never actually seen one in person. Any info would be appreciated.

If you decide to get one, make sure its one of the newer ones with the retention adjustment. Several people across the internet report problems with the holster retention being too tight, have even seen one post where the person said he pulled the entire holster off his belt trying to draw the pistol. Others have hit the interior of the holster with a bit of silicone spray. I think the adjustable retention screw might be a fix on their part to eliminate this.

I have one for my 1911's and while its nowhere near the quality of a good leather paddle holster, its not bad if you just want to carry the pistol around casually.

If i was anticipating some kind of rough and tumble or trying to conceal it, I would look elsewhere but for carrying around on a "lazy day at the farm" its ok.

I had a fobus retention holster for my G27 for about 16 hours. I returned it the next day. The paddle would come out with the gun no matter how quickly I snatched it as per the directions. About 1 in 6 times would I be able to get it out successfully.

I picked up an uncle mikes kydex retention holster about a month ago and love it. It's adjustable, so you can set it to exactly how you like it. The cant is also adjustable, and you can switch out the paddle for a belt mounted clip (which is included in the package) if you want. It has two belt loops so it's on your belt instead of the paddle.

Big thumbs up for the uncle mikes, and a big thumbs down for the fobus.

Thanks for the info guys....

usaf - i didnt see a version of uncle mikes specifically made for the 40v

shooter - i would really like to hear your opinion of the new one you got coming.

For the time being i just need one to carry around the place but i do ride a motorcycle and eventually want a holster that doesnt make me keep checking to see if my pistol is there or behind me on the road......

Thumbs up

The Fobus model number for the SW40VE and the SW9VE is HK1. I use both the paddle and belt version. They work great for me. That was a good tip about using silicone spray to "slick up" the inside. I have used
Armor All- just spray a little on a rag and wipe down the inside, then wipe dry. I have a Fobus belt holster for my Taurus 605 that was so tight,
I could hardly draw the gun. I used Armor All on it, and it is great now!
I love the Fobus holsters- they are nearly indestructible, no straps, buttons, or latches to mess with, and have an unconditional lifetime warranty. The only disadvantage I can think of is that they are somewhat noisy when reholstering (CLICK!).

USAF385,
Which model of Uncle Mike's holster do you have? They show two in their catalog. A photo would be worth a 1000 words.

I would seriously rethink having a pistol on your person while motorcycling. If you are unlucky enough to have a crash a pistol on your person could add serious injury in even a slow lowside slide or other minor mishap. I keep mine in the underseat storage or inside my tank bag when its on.

Blackhawk also makes that style holster but I think it is a little better. The retention and release is much better as it is a button that is depressed by your index finger to release the weapon, and I feel it is better when it comes to the adjustments for carry angle, etc. It also comes with both a paddle and belt attachment without purchasing anything extra. My local dealer switched from carrying the Fobus to the Blackhawk because too many people were not satisfied and after he explained the differences between the two, I tend to agree. It think the cost for the Blackhawk was about $45. Just my opinion, I have no connection with Blackhawk other than a satisfied customer of many of their products.

Hi:
I used Fobus Paddle Holsters for years with negative problems.
Occasionly I applied a drop of gun oil to my finger tip and rubbed the inside of the holster.
I sometimes wore the paddle between my pants and belt instead of inside my pants. With this method I could adjust the holster position with my elbow.
