just a noob 1917 Pic's Up.........
Hey Guys and Galls!
Lurked around a bit before, but finally decided to join because I scored a 5 screw 1917 today and want to learn more about it. I could post pics, but it would probably just make you guys cry, so I won't! Not that I'm braggin, but because the pistol has been abused in some slightly odd and very hard to understand ways. She's shooter, but she is long past the "beauty queen" stage.
Anyway, look forward to sharing info, great looking sight!
Just an Okie near Muskogee
Thanks
Bob T aka gundummy

OK, You asked for it,but don't say I didn't warn ya! you might want to grab a crying towel before you scroll down!
WARNING!!
THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES OF WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN AN IDIOT IS LEFT UNSUPERVISED WITH A TRUE AMERICAN WORK OF ART! PARENTAL DICRETION IS ADVISED!!!!!!
Don't bother looking for any barrel markings, because they have been skillfully drawfiled off leaving an attractive spiral pattern of file mark the length of the barre. ( Don't even think about the S&W trademark on the left side because it was apparently completely removed by making tiny scrathes through it with a sharp scribe! Oh and don't bother looking for the lanyard ring, because it was cut off flush with the butt the but and block sanded smooth along with all the marking EXCEPT you guessed it, the serial number and part of the "1917 stamp (19 is still pretty clear the 17 is little more than a memory. The flaming bomb got the "scribe treatment as well" I assume it was a flaming bomb because considering the serial number dates to the 1st year of production I just cant bear the thought that it might have hade the monogram stamp that a few have!
I know what your thinking! HOT HOT HOT!! NOPE! the only thing he left alone was the serial number under the barrel, the serial number under the frame, and his HUGE honkin SSN in all its electro penciled glory in about ½" high (and almost as deep) numbers!
The only way I can make sense of it all is like my Pops used to say, "Some people are just a waste of a good set of ears"!
Thanks guys for the warm welcome!
Bob T
P.S. be CAREFUL! Thos tears can play heck with your keyboard!

I think you are going to fit in just fine here.
