Regarding serial #DTX and reliability..
From my non-scientific observation (hehe..) it looks like the DTX___ serial # 15-22's have the most issues.
Does anyone have a DTX serial who has experienced no major issues with FTE's, FTF's, and OOB's? Just curious as mine is a DTX and I've not yet had the chance to go to the range....
I'll have to post some pics soon though!

My DTX1XXX had mag snag problems, but the gun itself works great.
I LOVE my gun!

Mine is a DTZ1xxx. Just bought it this past Monday and have put about 600 rounds through it. Only had FTF problems with Winchester "333" ammo. No problems with Federal bulk from WalMart.

DTX4xxx. Came with new style mag. 700+ rounds fed 550 bulk and CCI stinger. Not one problem. 8 yr. old boy and 10 yr. old girl shoot rounds as fast as they can sometimes. No problems, love the gun.

Picked up my MP 15/22 A1 March 3, instruction manual had red star on back. First shot fired OK ,second shot failed to eject, third shot blew up in chamber. Red star, and supressor does not solve the problems with this rifle. Does S&W have a quaility control department? This rifle has been out long enough that the problems should have been corrected by now. March 11, sent back to S&W. I should have believed what everyone on this forum was saying before buying. I'll let you know if they fix it when I get it back.
333 Winchester & Federal 550 S/N DTX $$$$
It was a DTX 5$$$

DTX1xxx, I've had probably 5 mag-snags in 175 rounds. One whole mag was Federal (with one FTFeed) and the rest with Winchester bulk. Other than that, I'm not too disappointed with it. I should be going to shoot later this week. I"ll let everyone know how it goes.

DTM9XXX
Initially came with a broken mag release lever, loaded up the original magazine (marked 22LR) with all the junk ammo I had around which was a mix mash of Super X, Rem Golden Bombs and another brand I can't recall now. It shot through 15 or so rounds, one stove pipe.
Rifle had to go back to Smith to replace the mag release anyway so I told them I wanted the whole rifle gone through.
Sent rifle in on January 30th had rifle back in possesion on February 9th. Was the first to report the new "Blue Spring" trend we are now seeing. Took rifle to the range Feb 14th and shot through 150 rounds of CCI Minimag 40GR with no issues. Went back to the range on Feb 28th and shot half a box of Federal Bulk Value 550, had one mag snag on the original "22LR" mag, no issues with the pair of "22LR 25 rounds" magazines.
No FTE no OOB to report.

DTX4XXX and it @#% ROCKS!! I've had two failure to fire with Remington branded ammo and I forget which kind but it wasn't GB. I do not blame the rifle. The case was struck so hard the lip was deformed. I have about 1k rounds in so far and have tried lots of different types of ammo even some not on "the list". It's done great with all but Remington.

I am just taking a wild guess here but it seems to me like S&W runs 10,000 units per Alpha. EG DTX0000 to DTX9999 then moves to the next Alpha. If that's the case, there must be nearly a hundred thousand of these things out there by now... I just can't believe there would be so many issues with model numbers newer than mine!
Sure would be nice if someone from S&W would chime in... It's not uncommon for folks on the inside to speak with the consumers, we after all are the reason they exist.

I bought mine a week ago and have only been able to get to the range once. I put about 200 rounds thru and had these problems. The FTFeed are Winchester Super X, the two FTfire are Remmington. I think the Remmington are just bad because they both had good hits. I going to try and make it to the range tomorrow and see if there continues to be problems.
I would appreciate any advice and/or remarks.

Belt Fed,
Thanks for the advice. I couldn't get the CCI Mini Mags and had to get the Stingers. I put 330 rounds through today. Not one FTFeed or FTFire. I hope I the same with the Remington bulk if not I wiil just shoot the CCI.

I just received my DTX4*** and it also rocks. Just put like 250 rounds like 150 CCI Mini mags and 100 Fed bulk and not one FTF or FTE. Did not come with blue springs, but not one issue. Wow, what a blast!!

I got my new mag from the local S&W rep last week. I was having mag snags with the original old style mag that came with my DTX1XXX. It not only shoots flawless, but S&W sent me a second mag that just showed up in the mail unexpectedly a couple days later! I LOVE THIS GUN!

DTX1xxx here, no issues
Just returned from the rifle range and wanted to report that my DTX1xxx M&P15-22 performed virtually flawlessly (first time shooting it); I shot one brick of CCI Blazer .22LR (high velocity, 40g) value pack (525 rds) through it and experienced 1 FTE at the very end of my shooting period. No OOBs, FTFs, or feed issues (using 5 previous version 25 rd mags that have been modded to accept 10 rds; purchased from George at RRages.com).
This one's a keeper
It took me a few magazines of shooting for me to get acclimated with the guns sights but once I did, I managed some decent groups shooting at 50 yds. Did not have to make any adjustments...
Very happy camper here!!

Just picked my M&P 15-22A1 up on Saturday 03-21-2010. Gave it a super cleaning. Then loaded up all four magazines. Shot 550 brick of CCI Blazer ALL FLAWLESS! ABSOLUTLELY NO COMPLAINTS HERE. Mine is a DUA???? Performed flawlessly. Wonderful rifle. Just need to find a way to put a MS2 single point sling on it now. Any suggestions other then a damn zip tie let me know.

DTZ**** A1 Comp
Just wanted to drop you guys a line to let you know I picked up an A1-Comp last week.
The bad news: I waited almost 8 weeks for it to arrive, after being ordered incorrectly and then re-ordered.
The good news: The wait, although frustrating, may have been good as it came equipped with the blue springs, a blue star in the back of the owner's manual, and the ".22LR 25 Round" labeled mag.
Range report to follow as soon as the schedule allows time to test it out.

My DTX had a firing problem that was corrected by a Proper Cleaning of The Firearm that states you should clean Before Shooting. (Which I didn't because i was anxious") That Fixed the Problem. But I DO get some Failure to Eject..
Sending this in ASAP

So is it only the DTX series of SN that have a problem? Are the DTX the "newer" rifles out or older ones?
I just got mine, a DTX02XX. Have not fired it yet. I see in the manual, certain types of ammo it does not like, and I see some that posted here used that type of ammo that was listed as possibly problematic, and they had problems.

DTX 45XX, failure to eject, failure to feed. Old style mags, meticulously loaded with CCI MiniMags and Winchester Super X among others. It averages 5+ malfunctions per magazine. I've been waiting three weeks for my return label.

I should have posted my update in this thread that I started, but I took my DTX serial# rifle to the range last weekend and had absolutely NO failures of any kind. Ran about 250rds of CCI Mini-Mag..
Will keep an eye on it of course and see how it performs the next time I shoot it, but so far so good..!!

Hey guys I see the majority of the probelms are Failure To Eject.
There is a Simple Solution I Discovered on YouTube, This Will Fix Majority Of DTX FTE's.
This Is Not My Video, Nor My Responsibility.

I solved the mag snag issue by replacing the mag! There seems to be old style mags that are labeled 22LR and newer mags that are labeled 22LR 25 ROUNDS. (unless you are in one of the compliant states that require less rounds) I had 2 of the new style that I bought from S&W, and one old style that had come with the rifle. All of my snags were with the old style mag, so S&W replaced it without me having to send the rifle back. Now it is smooth sailing all the way. I use Federal Bulk from Walmart, and am careful how I load the mags.

Guys:
If you will call S&W to send you a return label to trade your old mags for the new style ones they will do it.
I sent 5 of the old style ones in and they replaced them with the new ones. Took aboute ten days turnaround. When I sent my rifle to get it updated they gave one of new style mags it works perfect and the old style would cause it to jam. So that is what I did.
