Default H&S 22 Special

Greetings, I just got hold of a H&S 22 Special. This revolver is a 6" break top with 22 rimfire stamped on the right side.
Question: the Cylinder is 1,248" in length and has no chamber ridge. Could it have been made this way or might it have been reamed out? whats your thoughts? I just fired a few rounds seems to work well. One rounds didn't fire tho the hammer seems to fall hard enough. Thanks Richard

Don't you mean H & R (Harrington & Richardson)???
Good chance that some shade tree gunsmith tried to make it shoot .22 WRF (aka .22 Remington Special) or even .22 WRM (which could be disasterous).
I'd probably shop the auction sites for a replacement cylinder.

That's an H&R. Why do you say it's ".22 Special?" Actually, that's a very strong gun and if someone reamed the chambers to allow use of a longer .22RF round ( longer than .22 Long Rifle ) such as the .22WRF, etc. , it might work just fine. Ed.

Thanks for the response. Yes Harrington & Richardson. I just fired a few rounds, put ear protection and glasses and fired it in the wine cellar, seems to work well.
Do you think H&R may have made it that way?

The WRF would be 0.015" larger in Dia. ?

opoefc, "H&R 22 Special" is on the left side of the barrel.

I just filled in my profile, seems to have been deleted from the last time I was on board.

A few rounds of WHAT?
".22 Special" is the model name, not the caliber.
Standard velocity .22 lr would be correct if the gun has not been messed with.

Default 22 H&R

I have an old "22 Special" just like yours; it was my Dad's and I think he said he won it in a poker game. Probably 1930's vintage. The chambers are not recessed so I would suggest shooting standard velocity lr or even shorts in it. I could never hit anything with that revolver when I was a kid, but a few years ago I took it to the range and with a rest at like 15 feet it grouped pretty good but the sights are terrible. My example has a lot of cylinder play and I am sure it is shaving lead all over the place.

The rounds I used were long rifle. I measured the chamber with veneers. The cylinder ID. is .225". 22WRF measure .240".
I'd like to hear from someone who has an H&R, maybe they were made this way.

I just measured the cylinder. The chamber tapered, that is the cartridge can be chambered but from the front not even the bullet will fit. I was using veneers so not exact but about .002"-.004" down from the chamber size. No chamber ridge to shave lead if shorts are used.
