Do enclosed hammer j-frames have hammer blocks?
Specifically the new model 40-1.

Generally they do not.
I have not examined a model 40 since the grip safety rules it out as anything I would ever purchase.
However, I would expect any of the revolvers that have the grip safety would not have one either.

Thanks.
I had opened mine up to clean it real good and when I went to put it back together I was wondering if it had one and I lost it.

Nope, you're good. The function of the hammer block is to prevent a discharge if the gun is dropped on its hammer. No exposed hammer=no reason for hammer block. Of course, there's no reason for a keyed lock, either, but, um, well....

They Do not have the conventional hammer block safety..
They do have the rebound slide that the hammer rest against & can't move forward untill the trigger is pulled..
In fact your sideplate shouldn't even have the groove for the safety..
I know my 940 & 642 doesn't..
Sounds Like your Good To Go!!

colt saa; Don't overlook the fact of the grip safety on the Mod. 40 being able to be held in place with a pin. This was a feature on the original Centennial. I am not sure if the same holds true for the latest version.

It could be done on the new ones, but unlike the 40-nada, the -1 does not come with a pin, or with pin hole drilled. It would require a bit of smithing. I've contemplated drilling mine, but probably won't. I have no trouble depressing the safety, it comes naturally when I shoot it, and besides, mine is nickel, and I hate to drill holes in it, even if it would be hidden.
