Default Trouble w/Tyler Orders

Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing problems with a order from Tyler T Mfg. I started with placing a order 2 months ago w/owners wife, took all the info and placed the order w/CC. Said four - six weeks out, but card will be charged now, I said that was OK! 5 weeks and no word and I noticed when I checked my card the amount had not been charged? Contacted owner and talked to him, said due to problems w/CC orders, he prefered payment made w/MO and or check. Looked up my order, said item was made and waiting f/payment. of which up to this point I thought I had paid! He asked me to send a check and as soon as it cleared it would ship, said will clear in 4 days. I said OK, mailed a check the next day and waited for the check to clear. 2 days to get there, 4 days posted to my account and cleared, another week gone by, no grip yet, called again last Thursday, wife again answers, said husband was sick checked to see status of order, found but had not shipped? Said she would put into the mail that day, one week later no grip, they will not take phone calls on Thursdays nor will they accept e-mails @ all. You know after the problems for the last few months with mail order/web purchases, I am begining to think gun deals and related items is a easy way to get ripped! I will try again tomarrow, this time I just want my money back!RH

I'm not happy to say this, but for every deal-gone-sour that you've had, mine have all been perfect. And it's certainly not because I know
what I'm doing, either.
You need to pick someone, (not me!) and let some of that
luck rub off on them. Maybe a politician or some-such.

Ha! I had this same problem two or three years ago, and put up a big thread about it here. Only I had even more ridiculous run-arounds . . . power outages for ten days at a time, etc. Got the T-grip (which they had told me was in stock when I ordered it) months afterwards.

I used to order from the old company 20 years ago when I ran a gun store - based on my experience a couple years back, I would never order direct from the new company. If you must have a T-grip, pay more and buy from a middleman, who'll at least get you the stuff on time.

Drat: Just ran a search and could not find my old thread. I'll check Pete's forum - maybe I put it there as well and can link over. Edit: No joy at Pete's. I've seen it somewhere recently - if I find it in the next day or two, I'll put up a link to the story since it no longer appears to be on this forum.

I ordered a couple of bronze ones from them a while back (6+ months) and got them in about a month.

Sorry it hasn't worked out for you the same way.
Hopefully, they'll send your money back.

Hi:
I like and use the product. Keep in mind this is a very small operation and problems do occur.
Four to five weeks delivery is the norm.

Their website says 4-5 weeks for delivery and no credit cards. I mailed a check on 2/28. The check cleared on 3/8. As of today, no T-Grip. That makes it 6 weeks since my check cleared, I sure hope it comes in the next few days. The company shows all signs of one that is hanging on by a thread.

Well to let you know there is light at the end of the tunnel: it came today in the mail. The invoice is a little misleading, but hey I do have it and I doubt I will order anymore of'em.RH

I have ordered from them before and have one on order now. You are right it takes a long time. I just try not to think about it and they seem to get here quicker. Don

I've ordered twice and didn't have a problem. They did tell me to expect a wait - they only make so many up at a time. You can get them through a middle-man with a slight mark-up.

They are slow but I have ordered five of them and got them in about five weeks. They called the house to confirm the order that I mailed (with a printed order form and check). I plan to order some more (because I love them) and I expect them to be slow and operate like they are stuck in the 1950's.

I have to wonder who's ordering all these t-grips besides us? Seems like this a purist's item. I would have thought they'd be out of business by now.

I guess there are just a lot of us. Figure for every member here there are a dozen or so lurkers. According to the little "What's Going On" box at the bottom of the first page, there are nearly 60,000 members and nearly 7000 Active Members. Still a pretty well-stocked pool to fish from, I reckon.

The thing is, it's a neat little product that (literally!) fills a gap in the S&W line. It seems that a small specialty manufacturing company could take the T-grip and two or three other small products (speed loaders? stripper clips for SKS?) and make a go of it.

There was a gentleman on the GON forum who hand-carved some beautiful grips for the little NAA revolvers. I suggested that he try making a grip adapter similar to the T-grip. I thought it would be pretty neat to have a wooden, or possibly stag, insert for one of my j-frames.

A T-Grip styled stag grip adapter would be real neat! Are you listening Executioner?

I remember when I was a gun clerk many moons ago and you could buy a T-Grip for $3.00! Then the next time purchased had gone up to $12.00. Then you purchased thru a middle man, and they were all over the place in the shop where people would buy a used S&W revolver and did not like the T-Grip. Had a box full of them and S&W grips as well where the customer would ask you to swap out f/a Pachmayr? Now here is the sad, sad part, the owner would ever so often want the area under the counter cleaned out, you guessed it, the box of T-Grips and grips were trashed. Man if only. I do not have a problem w/the wait, but if you are going to tell Fairy Tales, then @ least stick to the story, don't keep changing it. The product is top notice, is the perfect dress up f/that S&W, servers a function, and is just ole school cool. But the delays and the price w/ship, is abit of a turn off!RH

Default TYLER - T GRIP

I have been ordering and using Tyler T grips for almost 35 years now and IT IS very frustrating dealing with the owners of this company. Their product is still an excellent one and I can honestly say that I have never had one break or fail, so while they frustrate the s--- out of you, hang in there. Once you finally do get it and install it you will soon forget about the hassle it was to get. To the best of my knowledge, there is no longer any viable competition for this product. Hang in there!

I finally received my T-Grip today. My check cleared on March 8th, so it took them 8 weeks to deliver. It was for a round butt J-Frame, maybe the demand isn't very high for that model and they wait until they have a decent sized batch on order to make up any inventory. It came in a plastic zip lock baggie, they don't even put them in a cardboard box any more. It looks OK and fits fine.

Hi! New guy here...
I joined this forum just to find something out about Tyler Manufacturing.
Ordered a grip adapter 6 weeks ago. Check cleared April 2nd.
Called once after two weeks of waiting and was told that I'd be put at the top of the list.
Now the 800 number is disconnected.
The web-site does not give a physical address, just a PO Box...
Sort of shady IMO.
Well, maybe the thing will show up one of these days.

I have 6 T-grips that came in the little white boxes, some I've had for 20 years at least. Last year I ordered 4 more, one for Colt DS, one for Python, two for S&W K frame RB. The Python has an obvious flaw, a bubble in the black coating that burst leaving a hole. Looks bad, but does not affect the use of it. Based on the wait to get it, I figured the trouble to get it replaced would be prohibitive.

The DS one was perfect. On one of the K frame RB the copper strip was not centered, so that the portion sticking out on one side was much longer than on the other side. On the other K RB, the copper strip was attached to the T grip at a much lower position, and does not appear to hold as well. Plus, both of these are marked the same but are smaller than K RB T-grips I have from years ago.

I don't see how you could compare the current models with the older ones and come to the conclusion the quality is the same.

I agree with stiab; the older ones are better. I have a couple of the old ones with the T-grip lettering on the left side; they fit perfectly in every way. I also have a couple of new ones without the lettering and they have been problematic. They don't fit the same, the attachments are not in the same place, and the copper strips are not of equal length. I had to have Patrick (Executioner) Grashorn adjust a set of his wonderful stag grips just to match one of the new ones (he did a great job-I can't say enough about his products and service).

They really need to get a grip on their business...or they will go by the way of the Tippa canoe company.

Well, I have them another chance with an order for four more. They did OK last time other than a five week wait.

1st ones in the two piece boxes were great. 2nd ones in the flimsy one piece box were so-so.

The latest ones in the zip lock bag are a **** shoot...usually more ****. Inconsistent shape from one side to the other, no two of the same type exactly alike, some don't fit the intended gun well, finish on some of the black ones is cheap looking and poorly done.

I prefer the ones that came in the two piece box and had the Tyler info on the side of the adapter. Yhey fit very good and were consistent.

I used to drive by Tyler's store on Britton Road in North Oklahoma City, and it was a tiny, dumpy place that looked like it was ready to fall down. I think I heard that Melvin Tyler died and his kids were running the business which probably doesn't make a lot of money since T-grip adapters are about the only thing they make. I was nearby once and called them to see if I could come over and buy some, and the guy didn't want me to do that, he wanted me to purchase over the phone with my credit card and then mail them to me plus sales tax. I got them after a few weeks and they work and feel fine but I never have been in love with the way they look or the way they attach. I keep thinking I'll set up some third world country subcontractor to make exact replica "coke" and "combat" grips for $25 a pair.
