Default Rehab after rotator cuff surgery, how much pain to expect?

I had surgery to repair a 1" tear in my rotator cuff last Wednesday, things went very well and I have had minimal pain. My first rehab visit is tomorrow, I was wondering how much pain to expect after the therapist is done?

More than you want to endure.

In a few months, you will be fine. Until then you will think the therapist are in business just to get paid to inflict pain on people.

I wish mine had been a 1 inch tear. Mine was a complete tear with 2.4 inches of separation.

People must differ. I had surgery for a major tear and separation (supraspinatus) back in December, started therapy about three days later. I was prescribed oxycodone for pain but after two days I really didn't need it. Ice was helpful, though.

My therapy started easy and went from there. The only thing I couldn't do for a while was to use the elastic bands much. If I had a little burn or ache from the exercise ice took care of it. I had the sling on for a month which made sleeping difficult: getting rid of that was a real break. But the therapy itself went very well and the therapist was very pleased with the results.

I see the Dr. one last time this month but for all practical purposes I have been good to go for two months now. I was shooting .22 pistols back in March or so and .45 auto shortly after. I was reload ing on a single stage press and sizing cast bullets as well. I try not to do anything stupid and haven't had any real problems.

With luck it might be pretty uneventful.

I work as a physical therapist and have specialized in hand and shoulder rehabilitation for the last 17 yrs. No easy answer to your question things really just depend on the quality of repair the surgeon was able to do and communication between yourself and your therapist. This is a difficult orthopedic surgey but not uncommon. Remember to consider your sources when given information and educate yourself on RCR as much as possible. Knowledge is power. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Hi:
I lucked out-my physical therapist was a reserve officer and was dating one of my sons.
On advice I slept in a recliner chair.
