Default Tokorav

I've been mulling an idea around, I was thinking of buying one of those surplus Tokoravs from Yugoslavia to play with. Anyone one one of these pistols?

I had a WWII Russian, it worked well and was reasonably accurate. One word of advice, if you get one and shoot it, wear foam ear plug's under a set of ear muff's, those thing's are noisy!

Are the Yugo guns surplus? I thought EAA was bringing in newly made Toke variants in 9mm from Serbia. I know that there were Polish and Romanian TT-33 variants on the market in recent years though, with the Polish ones being somewhat better regarded.

A Norinco 213 9mm commercial production Toke was my first handgun.

Classic Tokes have to be carried either on half cock (bad idea), condition zero (bad idea), or condition three. Life was cheap in Russia. Shrug. Most imported into the U.S. will have one form or another of safety fitted.

If you get a gun in 7.62x25mm you'll find ammo cheap, but usually corrosive. It's a little firecracker of a round.

A Toke in 9mm is actually a pleasant and useful little gun to shoot.

keep your eyes on Classic Arms Inc. Every so often they run amazing deals on surplus. I just picked up a tokarev with 1200 rounds of 7.62x25 for $250. couple months ago.

happy shopping.

My Romanian Tokarev is my knockaround field pistol/truck gun. It has been accurate, reliable and easy to carry. Reaches out to 100yds with no problem at all. I got a spam can of ammo I am sitting on, while just picking up a box or two at each gun show for range trips.
Half cock is not a "bad idea" in the case of the Tok...I do it all the time.
The Tok is very slim for a full size pistol, and carries CCW very easily...I love mine.
The Yug Tok are interesting, but have a longer grip and magazine...nice for the extra round capacity....but mags are not available..you are limited to the two mags you get.
With the standard Polish/russian/romanian/chinese Toks, mags are around in quantity cheap.

On the ones I've handled and/or owned the weakest link was the add on safety. Second complaint I had was that high rear sight, otherwise I felt it was a good design and nice to carry. The thinness almost reminded me of a 1903 Colt.

Thanks for all the info, I was wondering about spare mags, the same company SOGS has Romanian and Polish ones that use the standard mags and I may buy one of those instead.

I have always found those interesting guns, a long time ago I had a 9mm one from china.

Well I don't have a tokarev but I do have a couple cz52 pistols which shoot 7.62x25, I really love the cartridge, the pistols are ok but the cartridge they shoot is the best part.

If you have any intention of using it for self defence I highly reccomend finding some wolf gold HP ammo for it. When I tested them in water jugs I found fragments of jacket and lead in the first two jugs and the rest of the core went through three more jugs and was never recovered.

These things are practically new. They are a very good buy, based on the one I got.

For some reason the Yugo Tokarevs are not C&R. They also use a different mag than the others.

A buddy just got one of the Polish guns from SOG, it somehow ended up with Romy grips on it.

My father has the CZ variant, he loves it. Winchester still makes the 7.62x25 ammo.

I to have a CZ-52. It is my fav. pistol! It shoots GREAT! Can pic off clay's at 100 yards with it. I shoot surplus, Win and Wolf in mine all the time. Only down side is how it throws spent brass into the next state. I replaced the firing pin, rollers, cleaned up most of the comblock machine work on the slide and reparked it. The safety works very well as does the decocker.
