Boycott Austin
The City of Austin has gone to far on this one! I hate to have to hurt fellow Texans economically, but I am officially boycotting Austin until further notice! If you would like to express yourself to the mayor and council, here is the web link:
City of Austin - Send an e-mail to Mayor and Council
Now off to buy some tires from Discount Tire, an Arizona Company.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin City Council has voted to cut business and travel ties with Arizona to protest the state's new law targeting illegal immigrants.
A unanimous council vote adopted the resolution proposed by council member Mike Martinez. The Austin American-Statesman reports the resolution calls for an end to all city business travel to Arizona. Exceptions are travel for police investigations, providing humanitarian aid or to protect Austin residents health and safety.
But council member Bill Spelman, a co-sponsor of the resolution, says this will not mean "a dramatic shift in the city's policies."
City Controller Diana Thomas says Austin has no contracts with nor investments in the state of Arizona. Also, 48 city employees took 20 business trips to Arizona over the past year at a cost of $47,908.

The Austin City Council passed a resolution banning any official City travel to Arizona in a response to AZ's new immigration control law.
More and more this whole issue looks to be shaping up as one of those 80-car collisions that happen because everybody is speeding in a dense fog and assumes without any justification that he knows what lies ahead.

I'm boycotting Austin although it won't hurt them much since I've only been there one time.

I get a kick out of these. They all have a provision saying for non essential travel or exceptions for this and that. Helllloooooooo...what the hell are government employees doing traveling if it's not essential?

If we knew then what we know now we'd have picked our own fruit and mowed our own lawns.

You need to understand that Austin is moonbat central for Texas. It's such a great place to live the hippies didn't leave after finishing at UT.
I haven't checked lately, but Travis County is usually the only blue county in the state in elections.
Still, it's a great place to be and I would move back in a heartbeat.

Austin is Texas' own version of San Francisco. It has the same wooly headed kind of city government as does San Francisco. It is also a sanctuary city. There are so many other great places in Texas, it is easy to avoid Austin. Amazingly, there are a lot of folks of a conservative bent that live in Austin.

Texans have learned long ago to take whatever comes out of Austin with a very large helping of salt.
I heard a comment years ago that, in regard to Texas laws and the legislature that "if it makes sense or works, then it won't come out of Austin..."

Morons...just like my city...don't they know that boycotting the city hurts the workers that they are trying to side with?

I find it hard to understand how Arizona's law is discriminatory or racist. I have friends that are working here legally from China, India and the Phillipines. The harassment and $$$ cost they go thru with the US Immigration service is unbelievable. When you only enforce the law again certain ethnic groups (Like Chinese, Indians, etc) I think that is racist.

we really don't consider Austin to be part of Texas, It's really more a part of Massofornia.
I would like to see us move the capital to College Station.

The last time I was in College Station some guy in a cadet uniform walked up to me pushing a wheel barrow full of a steaming pile of horse manure. He stopped, saluted, and said "Howdy!" I knew right then that this was an OK kind of place. I second College Station as the capitol of Texas.

It does look like the Arizona immigration law is working though, because it's going to keep the Austinites out!

Just sent a message to the mayor and council. In it, I asked if they'd even bothered to read SB1070 (since Eric Holder couldn't be bothered, why should they?)
I informed them that I had removed Texas from my planned trip this summer, just to ensure that none of my money found it's way into the Austin coffers. I also added that I'd be writing to the Governor and the state legislature to ensure that they knew who to blame for the loss of tourism revenue.
I'm sure they won't care...but it makes me feel better!

I've never been there even though I have relatives there. I just went to the website and boycotted Austin. I too questioned whether thay had read the bill.

They have built this wonderful toll road around Austin. I get on it at Buda and go all the way to Georgetown and don't miss a thing.
The official city motto is "Keep Austin weird!"

Boycotting Austin is no problem - Never been there, never plan on being there.
However, Miss Nancy and I will be taking our vacation to Arizona this year. Sounds like my kind of place
