If the screw interferes with the main spring it is usually because the mainspring has been bent or the strain screw shortened resulting in a different then factory shape. Very frustrating on some of the guns that have had extreme trigger jobs.
Pachmayr has a whole range of grips and I really like them. I would say that they run a little on the large side compared to Hogue and Uncle Mikes. They put more material between you and the trigger (although they make models that don't cover the backstrap) so the trigger reach is longer and this will be a deal breaker for some and a plus for others. They offer compac grips that don't have finger grooves which is great and they offer grips made of a softer rubber that seriously reduces perceived recoil. I use their Gripper grips on square butt k-frames and think they are phenomenal. I bought a pair of compacs for my 3" round butt 686 and found that something about them ruined my trigger control. It felt like I had less leverage then with the grippers and seemed harder to reach the trigger. I have a set of compacs for my j-frame (fantastic grip) and found that they interfered with my Safariland comp-1, will have to trim those down tonight.
