The allure of nickeled Smiths!
I think my first exposure to nickeled Smith & Wessons was when I was just a tadpole. My dad worked for the Valley National Bank in Phoenix as a teller then, and my mother and I often went into the bank to say "hi" when we went downtown, just a short walking distance from our home. I was fascinated with the guns the bank guards wore (and yes, they had bank guards in those days). I remember one in particular had a nice shiny revolver in his holster, and I thought at the time that it was really neat - after all, the movie cowboys of the day often had shiny revolvers, too. Today, I figure that revolver was probably a Smith & Wesson Military and Police, although it might have been a Colt. Not long after that, my grandmother mentioned that she had a nickeled revolver that belonged to my deceased paternal grandfather. She kept it in a dresser drawer for house protection. I asked to see it, and she complied, not letting me handle it, but just showing it to me. I thought it was a really pretty handgun. I have it today; it's a Model 1902 Hand Ejector, shipped from the factory in 1904. It's much worse for wear now; it looks like grandma used it to drive nails, and it was kept in grandpa's leather shoulder holster.
At any rate, my fascination for nickeled Smiths continues to this day. I have a number, and count them as among the most attractive firearms I own. Here are a few:
OK, not a Smith, but attractive nonetheless:
Anyone else share my love of these sparkling beauties?
John

I LOVE the looks of a nice nickel wheel gun but they just are not for me. I am a 'little' rough on weapons.

When I was a "tadpole" ( ) I remember a few of the local officers carried nickeled Combat Masterpieces/Model 15s. (For some reason, I don't recall ever seeing an M&P being carried by a local officer.) They are catchy looking.
I remember after school I would stand around and talk with one officer, in particular, about his revolver. I knew him because his Mom and Dad lived across the alley from my home. He once told me he had been taught to dust his holster with baby powder so he could draw faster. Things were different back then. He was not really a gunman and I recall his most common remark was that the gun was quite a burden.
I always disliked nickeled S&Ws, but then, for some reason, I fell off the wagon and bought one in a moment of weakness. I believe it was a particularly nice 8-inch Model 29 that was priced attractively. Ever since then, I have grown to kind of like them.
Very pretty guns you have there, even the oddball.

Yup, I like them too, I have about six nickled S&Ws and a few of other brands. I also like bright, high polished stainless too, but not quite as much as the nickled ones.

I have a nickeled M58, and a four-inch M57.
Also an off-brand a electroless nickel Para Ordnance frame with a Caspian Hbrid ported slide.
All good-looking and effective guns.

I use to always prefer blued guns, but as Ive gotten older theres just an appeal about nickled plated guns, most of the ones I have I dont shoot, I just like looking at them and keep them as safe queens and shoot their blued counterparts. You have a nice looking collection there.

I got a coupla nickle p&r 6 1/2" 29s, both unfired when I got them, but shot one of them since. Mmmm yes, made when sex appeal was engineered in their guns.

When I was a kid, my dad always spoke of nickel plated guns as a sign of a degenerate soul. I carried that view for close to 60 years until I came into posession of my cousin's M57 6". It has been down hill ever since as there are a dozen or so nickel plated working guns in my stable. My body chemistry quickly strips blueing from a gun so for me nickel is a very serviceable finish.

I've got a nickel plated Model 59 for sale on the forum, if you are interested in adding a semi-automatic to your collection.

Aloha,
Nothing quite like a Nickel M-57 6" with magnum loads punching out the 10 ring to draw a small crowd.......
My very first 41 mag was a 4" nickel M-58. It was stolen in a burglery.
I do miss it so.......

My Nickel 19-3's
I have both a 2 1/2" nickel 19-3 and a 4" nickel 19-3. Sorry, can't post pictures. Haven't shot them since I got them. Still hope to find a 6" nickel 19-3 at a decent price before I kick the bucket. Also on my short list is a 3 inch 66. -Ed.
