Load suggestions for 270gr LBT in 44 mag?
I just picked up some Leadhead 270gr, plain base, .430", LBT-design, WFN for my S&W329pd. I'm looking for a 1100fps load out of this 4" barrel. I've got LilGun, H110, Enforcer, 2400, and AA#9 on hand. If anyone has any experience with these, I'd appreciate the sharing of information. I'm about to load up test sets and there's not much info on this bullet.

Can't help you with those powders as I use IMR4227 with the same bullet (@ 275 gr from someone else though) at 1100 fps. Worked like a champ on a nice boar a couple of months ago. The Hodgdon and Alliant websites ought to get you started using data for similar weight loads.

These are the loads I'm thinking of trying. If something looks out of whack - speak up. I'm having a hard time with AA#9 data as load sources don't agree at all on a max for 270gr jacketed, and of course there is zip data for this exact bullet.
Leadhead 270gr, .430", plain base, WFN, CCI350 primers,
- Enforcer - 20.0gr
- H110 - 21.0gr
- 2400 - 19.0gr
- AA#9 - 18.0gr

I load a 265g cast GCSWC over 22g H110/W296 with a WLP, BUT - my revolver is not alloy. No worries on the pressure, just the recoil.
Try this, use that bullet over 7g W231/HP38. Should give you @ 900fps and a lot less felt recoil.

Thanks, but I'm not recoil-shy. I'm looking for a 1100+fps load - from a 4" barrel.

2400 will be your best bet. Try 16.5-17gr under a 270gr LFP. With H110, 21gr should be very close to 1100fps in a 4". The bullet I am loading is a Lyman DEv modified to a cup point. Lubed & GC, it goes about 270gr.

I second fredj338's recommendations. I have a 329PD with Hogue/S&W X frame 500 grips, and my carry load is a 225g cast hollow point boolit with 18g of 2400. I have found that the perceived re-coil increases greatly with this revolver as the weight of the boolit goes up.
Enjoy your re-coil, it will surely be there!

Yea, I backed down both my 2400 and AA#9 loads to 17gr. I really like how 2400 meters from a Lee Perfect - which is what I like to use when I'm making up small batches. Hopefully it won't be raining tomorrow

Well I found the recoil of a 270gr@1100fps to be "less" than a 240gr@1250fps. "less" is my estimation of perceived recoil, not a numerical fact. Basically the 270gr felt nice to shoot from the 329pd until I got close to 1200fps. My 17.5gr load of AA#9 was right at 1100fps and had a soft recoil to it.
