Default Three Degrees of Separation From Elmer

Just an amusing story.

Years ago, I lived in Idaho Falls. I was between wives, and dating a young woman named Kristi. Her mom was born and raised in Salmon, Idaho. I asked her mother once, "Have you ever heard of Elmer Keith?" She looked at me in amazement, and said, "Yes, we lived down the street from him. How do you know him?" Well, she had no clue who he was. He was just the strange old man with the big hat and cigar. I've been reading him since I was about age 10, so I told just a few of the things he'd done. It was pretty cool.

I don't know many people who can really appreciate a little story like that, but I figured there's plenty of people here who could.

This was taken September of 1979. In the Cabin outside his residence where he did his writing. Elmer Keith was surely the Real Deal.

I grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I have many wonderful memories of that time.

I would have loved to have met Mr. Keith. He was one of a kind.

That's for sure, it seems that just about every other writer wasn't/isn't what they claimed to be, except for the Skeltons maybe. It's like buying a Playboy magazine and finding nothing but pictures of transvestites inside.
