Dan Wesson CBOB
For those that may know, what would you say would be a good price on a used CBOB?
I know that CZ/DW no longer sell these new to free states, but I'm thinking about trying to grab a used one. Any idea on what I should be looking for (prices)?
Also, do all CBOBs say "Match" on the factory barrel? I've seen photos with and without the match, was wondering if they changed it at some point or if some photos were of aftermarket barrels.
TIA

Some of the early CZ Bobtail's said "match" on the barrel hood and "NM" on the bushing. They quit doing that after the first year or two but all the guns are the same.
Some of the parts are from Ed Brown.
Dan Wesson 1911's are the best bang for the buck bar none. They are very well made and perform wonderfully.
Even though the that version of the Bobtail is no longer made it is still highly desireable. Don't be surprised if you pay over $900 for a used one. If the gun is in good condition, that's a good price.

I bought one used but 200 rounds new some 2 years back for $950.
I can not say enough positive about this 1911.
To my mind, there is no equal in their price range - nothing comes close.
Every detail is addressed for the non custom buyer that wants a dependable quality 1911.
I had a Kimber Custom CDP II that had a tight chamber, but then I'm redundant, most do.
With my reloads it would FTRB every 100 ~ 200 rounds. NFG!
I sold it for the price of the CBOB for a smooth transition and I couldn't be more pleased.
The commander size is as small as you can go for dependable function before you have to modify the pistol to compensate for the lost mass.
Series 70, sublime. Short guide rod, sweet. Front and rear Trijicon sights with orange rear and green front - superb, no parallax.
My barrel says match, my Ed brown hammer, extractor and ejector (extended) are black, but it makes no difference to me. They work as advertised.

Thanks for the info.
I was looking at a used CBOB, 1 mag, no box/papers, for $900. Been thinking about it, trying to figure out which arm or leg, uummm, which gun(s) in the safe I don't shoot that I could sell to get the DW.
Price seems to be in line then.
It doesn't have the factory grips, they've been replaced with some aftermarket that I'm told are worth ~ $75.
Decisions, decisions....

My friend bought one of those chopped up 45's for his kid just this past Christmas, paid $875 with tax, new.
Looks like we get discounts for living under such oppression

Yeah, if I had been of the right mind, I would have bought one last year before the price hike. Then I could have gotten one new for reasonable bucks, too.
Now, not so much.

I purchased a 10mm CBOB brand new in December of 2008 and the barrel is stamped "Match". Another, purchased at the same time by a friend, was also stamped as well.
As others have stated, they are really fine 1911s and I'm sure you'll be very pleased if you buy one. Mine was a little finicky feeding the first 25 rounds but has functioned perfectly ever since. I attribute the initial problems to the tight tolerances they hold everywhere on the gun. The fit between the slide and frame plus the barrel and bushing are rock solid with no play whatsoever. These, coupled with a great trigger, add up to make a very accurate gun!
If you intend to concealed carry with it, the bobtail does make a difference with the grip frame being less susceptible to printing.

Dan Wesson's new bobtail retails for about $1500. Prices have gone up.
If you can get one for $900, jump on it.

$900 + tax = so say $975 ...
even with just the one mag and no bushing wrench and box/papers, does $975 still sound reasonable???

Ask your friend if he is willing to adopt a 30-something kid?

Well, they normally come with 2 mags and a box. See if they will come down a little. But I doubt they will. If not, see if they will eat the tax.
The extra mag would be an issue with me. But the box and wrench are no big deal.
