Default Price check on a Model 64 DAO

Came across a bobbed hammer Model 64 in DAO for less than $300.

Don't remember the generation but I think it was a 64-6

Is that a good deal?

It was in fantastic shape.

There are quite a few on the market at present, police and foreign trade-ins, in the low $200 range. J & G Sales in AZ has/had quite a few, but possibly not quite as nice as the one you've seen.

Sounds like an good price as long as you plan to use it as is. If you are planning on changing the hammer going back to stock configuration it would be worth looking for one that's already how you want it. Hope that helps.

I used to post that the days of the $300 blue and the $400 stainless revolver are about over.

I'd say that a Mod 64 dash anything "...in fantastic shape." would be worth 300 bucks no matter how many were on the market.

Go to the S&W website and look at MSRP prices on new revolvers and you'll see that amount of money will get you a 1/3rd down payment on a new one.

Picked it up today and was $284 which included the sales tax. A few scratches

Serial Number is BPA76xx

Any idea of the age?

Should I retain the black rubber grips or can the wood grips of a Model 66 fit?

I calculate the summer of 1993....hope that helps. Wood should fit, but the rubber should perform better at the range.

wnr700, I may not have given you enough to go on about the grips, so here's a little more. Just remember you have a K-frame. The K-frame & L-frame revolvers have the same grip size. You will have a square butt (right angles on front & back) or round butt (rounded on the back end) - if your's is a 4 inch barrel I would guess it's a square butt unless someone chopped on it. If it's a 2 inch barrel it could be round or square. Just take the rubber grips off & check it out. Then feel free to try out any wood grips designed for a K or L frame square or round butt, which ever the case may be.

I always preferred pachmayr's at the range, the gripper models with the finger groves - but that's just me.

Hope that gives you more to go on.

I picked up one a couple of years ago for around the same price- mine (and perhaps yours...) is an NYPD NY-1 variation. It has the identifier NY-1 stamped inside the yoke area and the serial number is laser etched on the left side of the frame below the cylinder.
BTW, mine is a round butt and was still wearing the original RD service grips when I bought it. I switched to compac Pachmayrs and it is a sweet shooter.
Good luck with your pistol and have fun!

A local shop just got a boat load of M64s with bobbed hammers. Prices seem to be $349 to $399 or so.

Your price sounds very fair. You can't go wrong with one of those for a home defender.
