Default Info on Mas 45

I vaguely recall a thread on these French made Mauser .22lr trainer rifles but, can't find it. I passed on one of these a couple of years ago and regretted it, especially after seeing some of the positive remarks on it.

Today I found another one and couldn't pass - Brand spanking new complete with the cosmoline, sling, & six mags.

Any info, history, suggestions, or pics of your Mas 45 would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bruce

I have one that I bought from a fellow gun club member about a year ago. Superbly accurate, fun to shoot, I acually hit a paintball at 100 yards with mine to win a tie breaker at a .22 shoot at our club. We had a stage where you had to hit five steel chickens at 100 yards, four shooters (including myself) hit all the chickens, so they decided to put a paintball on the target boards at 100 yards, first one to hit the paintball would be winner of the stage.

All of the other shooters had scoped rifles, CZ's, Winchester and Anschutz as I remember, I was the only one with iron sights so I blackened the carboard where the paintball was placed with a black magic marker so I could see it. When it came my turn, I hit that paintball, beating the scoped rifles!

I'm getting ready to take mine to the range this morning, get some offhand (standing) practice done.

Mine shoots great with CCI Standard Velocity ammunition, 50 yard groups form a clover leaf with all rounds touching.

You are going to love that rifle!

Here's two. Fine shooters.Bottom one has aftermarket stock, bolt handle modified for scope.

They are a repeater version of the KKW action. Developed a by Mauser for the French after WWll, first ones were marked "Mauser" and made in Germany. French later moved the Mauser tooling to France and started production there.

Thanks for your replies -

Really looking forward to shooting this one and I do believe I'll leave it unscoped also. Gonna take a lot of cleaning up to get rid of all that cosmoline tho.
When I pick it up, I'll post pics & range report.

As the other posters have said, they're very accurate, and are well made and reliable. For me the peep aperture is a little small, but that's just my eyes. The rear sight is step adjustable for range, but I don't know what ammo it's calibrated for. The front sight is replaceable, but I don't know a source for higher or lower front sights.

The rifle was designed by Mauser and some were made in Germany under the Nazis. When France occupied Oberndorf, they found some rifles, lots of parts and the tooling. They needed a 22 rifle for training so adopted the Mauser. Some rifles have Mauser marked receivers or butt plates; some butt plates were just turned around and have the Mauser marking facing the stock. When France was forced by Russian pressure to discontinue having arms made at Mauser (they made over 60,000 P-38s, most of which went straight to Indochina), they moved all the parts and tooling to St Etienne and continued manufacture. That was in 1946, and the French engineers insured that no stone was left on top of another at Mauser Werke when they left.

Hello folks. I am new here, but was looking over my long guns last night and cleaned up the MAS 45 .22 that I bought in 1982 or so for $100.

A group of friends went in together to buy a case of them; that was how we had to buy them.. case lots. The stock is, well, shoddy, but this thing is accurate and heavy.

I never knew the history of the rifle until I found this thread. Thanks for the info. I think I will hang on to this one.

Don
