Default Considering Moving from Sig 226 9mm to M&P full-size 9mm

Got a question mainly about grip circumference on the full-size M&P 9mm.

Here's my situation: After 18 mos. of IPSC and PPC competition with my Sig 226, I've finally concluded that this otherwise exceptional pistol is just not an optimal fit for my smallish hands. This became all-too-obvious when I bought an M&P Compact 9 and my accuracy vs. the full-size Sig instantly and consistently improved by 20-30%. The Compact 9 is a perfect ergonomic fit.

So, my question is: Will my hands be just as happy wrapped around the Full-Size M&P 9mm as they are around the M&P Compact 9?

Most likely. As far as I know the grip diameter is the same between the M&Pfs and M&Pc. but is shorter on the compact.

The P226 grip never felt right to me, but the full sized M&P does, and that's with the mid size insert.

As a competition shooter, the M&P Pro version might be something to consider, also.

Thanks for the input, guys.

That M&P Pro looks like a helluva pistol, but unfortunately I live in Massachusetts and I do not believe the Pro model is offered here. I'll just have to go with the standard MA-compliant 4.25" version (and get the trigger worked on a bit like i did with my 9-compact).

The M&P grip is definately smaller and has a shorter trigger reach than the P226. The large M&P insert is similar to the standard P226.

I'd say I'm convinced that it's time to trade in the Sig for the M&P.

And somebody with big mitts is going to wind up with a used but perfectly-maintained P226 with dead-on Hi-Viz fiber optics, 4 extra mags, a holster, and original blue case.

jeekay,
I also switched from a SIg 226 to an M&P. While I have a relatively large hand ithe more rounded grip of the Sig 226 did not fit as welll as either the S&W 99 or M&P. The grip contour is the same for both the compact and full size M&P's - only difference is the length of the grip.
